Teachers make less $75k in Arlington because they only work Sept-June 23. They have July and August off and several paid week long breaks--spring, Xmas, etc. I don't even get Xmas eve off or wed or fri before and after thanksgiving. |
They start at $47K. They make $75K with 15 years experience. For reference, HHI of $43,568 is eligible for FARM. |

I think it would have more impact if the kids had to go to school, but the women workers don't. Let the kids sit in assembly all day with the (few) male workers.
|
They don't have to put up with the same crap that public school teachers handle. Private schools get to choose which students they allow to enter and can kick out students who aren't up to their standards. |
| Ask my DH about how his day went without a woman. I was sick yesterday. Right now I'm looking at a very messy house. |
And punish the men for what? What a silly idea |
That's family of 4-not for a single individual. |
Most families are a family of 4. |
You said that teachers make less because they are "public employees" but that is not true because private school teacher make less. |
| And this is why dept of education is going going gone. If public education can so easily be shutdown by a walk out of the female teachers, then perhaps it is time to privatize education since then there will be actual consequences for such insubornation. This "movement" is dumb and plays into the hands of most conservatives. Apparently taxes are being wasted in the public education realm. Bravo - signed a liberal who is so over this nonsense. |

I am a public school teacher and am angry at teachers who will be taking the day off and thus closing their school. It is not because I don't support gender equality - I do, and I dislike Trump as much as anyone. But the march is very short sighted. I teach at a school where the majority of students are low-income. Their parents are not employed in positions where they can take off with such short notice. They are not in positions where they get paid time off. They are often paid hourly, and so they're either left scrambling to find childcare (a hassle, plus $$) or have to forego a day's worth of pay. Or leave their kids at home, unsupervised. None of which are good options.
It's just a really shitty position to put these parents in. |
And most teachers are double income households just like most everyone else. Point? |
You are so funny because you just made my point. Thanks! Go back to my original point. |
+ 1. A responsible school teacher who puts the interests of the children before their own political views. Brava or Bravo, as the case may be. |
