Would you put your life on the line to go out and speak among these lunatics? She's a wife, mother and grandmother, too. I have seen her out and about asnswering all sorts of challenging questions with poise and dignity. She very well may lose and, if so, that's the way politics works. Fund her opponent. Pay for negative ads. But, the average person living in her district understands that those who choose to come into a town hall and disrupt just for the sake of it are part of the problem, not the solution. |
Then you've proven that what the PP said isn't true. She doesn't try to represent everyone. She tries to represent the slice of the population that might actually vote for her. That's smart politics and give her credit for that. The hyperbole of her putting her life on the line is interesting. Don't buy that for a second. A Member can have great security for such an event. Also, she is tough and strong person. Those of us who know her don't buy the shrinking violet narrative you have presented. Agree or disagree with her, she is a fighter. If you don't believe me, please look up her bio and who she's worked for and with. |

As I already said, I personally know multiple people who have asked to set up an in office meeting. While they have said the office staff have been nice, they have not been granted any opportunity to talk to her in person.
And this paid protestor stuff? Jesus, you folks are complete morons if you believe that. I WISH I was getting paid to protest. That would be very helpful. Maybe I wouldn't stay up at night worrying about how the hell to pay for the recent emergency surgery I just had to have or my one kid's uncovered therapy sessions or the other's braces. |
Interesting comment. Something that hasn’t gotten a lot of press (predictably) is that Democrats in vulnerable districts are not having town hall events. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/vulnerable-dems-lay-low-town-hall-angst-rages-45706463

PP, Agree with you on the paid protester canard. However, expecting an in-person meeting for everyone that requests one isn't feasible considering she represents hundreds of thousands of people. That's why she has staff to help her. She was just re-elected a little over 3 months ago. Of course she is going to prioritize in-person meetings with folks that are most likely to actually vote for a Republican. |
Ha! The fact that you're calling Comstock's constituents "these lunatics" shows how out of touch you are. I know quite a few people in her district--they're polite, well-educated professionals with children and they are exercising their rights under the First Amendment to be heard on issues that matter to them--like, health care, education and immigration. Comstock barely won against a not-so-inspiring opponent in 2018. She's going to lose in 2020 if she tries to keep herself away from all the but the most dedicated Republicans. |
| Poor Comstock is going to spend the next two years desperately trying to put daylight between Trump and herself. It won't work and the district will go to a Democrat. |
| Lol at "lunatics" in Comstock's district. 1) isn't VA-10 one of the richest districts in the entire country? These are well-paid professionals, not random country-ass hicks. 2) maybe if Republicans supported gun control measures that ensured that the mentally ill and those on terrorist watch lists couldn't buy guns, they wouldn't have to worry about their safety like the rest of us do ... |

Barely won in "2018?" You do know that the 2018 election hasn't happened yet? Paid intern? She out preformed her own party's national candidate by 16 points. |

If you're going to be snippy with another poster for an error |
+1 Clearly the PP was referring to 2016 and 2018. And yes, Comstock won 53%-47% in what used to be a safe Republican district. |
+1 Comstock's social media intern needs to learn how to spell. |

No, you are wrong. Townhalls are now a thing of the past. Republicans have discovered that they can reach more constituents more effectively and give more constituents a chance to speak through teleconferencing and video-conferencing. So long as the Dems pay protesters to riot at Republican Town Halls, this is how business will be conducted. If you can reach 6,000 constituents thru a dial-in conference call why WOULD a Republican set up a town-hall meeting where only 30 people show up and a bunch of paid rabble rousers are rioting outside? Easy decision. http://dailycaller.com/2017/02/27/leaked-audio-reveals-anti-trump-forces-manufacturing-hostile-town-hall/ |
