1. The ticket is still a first with Hillary at the top. 2. Many white men do feel like this country is being taken away from them. He makes them feel more secure. Picking a minority would have driven some people to Trump (whether we want those folks is another question, but hey, trying to win elections here). You think Obama would be President if he chose a minority or woman? No way. 3. Kaine speaks Spanish so he still helps with the Latino vote. As a former Richmond mayor (and if a PP who said he attends an AA church is right), he is likely very comfortable with black audiences as well. 4. (This one is minor.) That story of his father-in-law and wife going to integrated Richmond schools is going to get play. Love it. 5. Kaine is genuinely religious. It's a part of his core. That's not the case with Hillary. It seems forced with her and she rightfully doesn't bring it up often. (I don't care; I'm an atheist, but I know it matters to many people.) He checks the boxes in a lot of ways that she doesn't. Doesn't matter if he's white. I'm very happy with this decision. |

And, if he has anything to do with planning the budget, you can bet your taxes will go up - even if you are a low or middle income earner, as evidenced by his attempt at a tax increase in VA as governor.

NP. As a democrat I'm pleased to hear that non-dems will appreciate him on the ticket. I'd never heard of kaine previously , but thought he was very effective . |

Just watched the speech. I've never heard him speak before and he was amazing.
Was hoping for someone else on the ticket (Warren or Julian Castro) but have to admit I'm impressed. |

Midwestern roots plus VA. The only VP candidate with foreign policy chops (other than Stavridas). He's a great pick. |
I don't want to quarrel, but I think your assessment of Hillary's faith is completely wrong. She speaks very frequently about being a life-long United Methodist. She talks about how her youth pastor influenced her life. She is a former Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Foundry UMC in DC when she was FLOTUS. For goodness sakes, she quotes John Wesley on the campaign trail. (For those that don't know, he's the founder of the Methodist Church.) |
James B. Murray paid for it. Gov. McAuliffe appointed him to a UVA Board. I really felt sorry for poor Bob McDonell - a freaking Smith Mountain lake vacation. |
| Madly in love with Kaine. I knew virtually nothing about him until an hour ago. |
Yes very dispointing...she has already giving up on the dream. How many more men will be given positions in her administration? All we have to do is look across the border to Canada and the PM is a man! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/04/canada-cabinet-gender-diversity-justin-trudeau

No worries. You might be right. I say this as a supporter, but she has a tough time seeming genuine often. So it may be that I don't find her genuine even when she is being so. She just doesn't seem at ease all the time. She's getting better, better this time than 8 years ago. No offense to her. I'm sure I would come off as inauthentic to large groups because I wouldn't be very comfortable. |
It's funny to me how the fact that she, the top of the ticket, is female, seems to escape some people |
| So Hillary is failing with white men so she nominates a white man..... |

I can't wait to see this speech! I saw him on Morning Joe a little while back and found him warm and down to earth then. Having now learned more about his background, I am really impressed! I kind of wish he were the top of the ticket as well but this will definitely make it easier for me to vote for Hillary.
I am an independent voter (having voted for W. twice and Obama twice). I am also excited to have a Virginian on the ticket! |
Hillary is nothing but transparent (unless we're talking 30,000 emails). |
| He looks like a puppy. 'Not presidential' as Trump's tweet said. |
