Tim Kaine's Speech

I think he was pretty loyal to Obama and Clinton, and could see that this was Clinton's year. And he just wasn't well known outside of VA, that will obviously change with this election. If that speech is a taste of what we see at the convention, I think he will knock it out of the park.

Webb, a former va senator, was also trying to run

Twitter is loving him too. Trump must be dying inside, since that's his only metric he understands. Sad!

I was very impressed and by all accounts he's a very decent guy. I, too, was holding my nose and voting for Hillary but now I'm much more happy to do it!

Kaine shot some awesome one-liners - wanting a "You're hired!" presidency vs. a "You're fired!" one. Also telling immigrants "Thank you for choosing us!"

As the child of immigrants (both parents were naturalized before I was born), that hit home. There is absolutely nothing in the RNC/GOP that represents me, or that resonates. And Kaine's right - every person should attend a naturalization ceremony to fully understand the power, gratitude, and responsibility with becoming an American. Many of us take it for granted.

He did a fantastic job. He spent most of the speech introducing himself - and with just enough Spanish to demonstrate his fluency.

He attacked Trump just enough to put everyone on notice that he's prepared to go on the offensive when needed. Trump's stupid tweets won't land a blow on this guy, and Pence will seem like even more of a Dunce next to Kaine.

And he elevated Hillary in his presence - she comes across as a more likable candidate when sharing a stage with people who share her values.

A complete home run. And his wife is fantastic as well.

Nothing screams "I'm a total stooge" than random references to George Soros.

Yes, the wealthy Jewish financier pulls all the strings. Just when do you want to have the first pogrom officially sponsored by Trump/Pence?

People say he's boring, but he's not. His stage presence is the best of the four candidates.

Agreed. He has an everyman persona that none of the other candidates have. And he seems interested in other people, unlike Trump (who only cares about himself), Clinton (who seems wary of other people) and Pence (who makes Paul Ryan seem charismatic).

I lived in Richmond when he was on city council and then mayor and have been following his career ever since. I've always been a huge fan of his. He is such a decent and good person, and a fighter for justice and not a pushover. He is the kind of politician that makes you believe there is still good in the system. I am so thrilled he is the choice. He still lives in the same house in a random neighborhood in Richmond, still goes to the same AA church he's been going to for decades, drives the same beat up car, is the salt of the earth. Everyone who knows him likes him, even if they don't agree politically, and that can be important as VP if he has to work with Congres and bipartisanship.

I am curious as to what Trump will say, here could be some counter attacks:

1) he's boring: he's kind of dorky but he owns it
2) he accepted $100,00+ in gifts as governor: this is a touchy subject in VA due to the McDonnall scandal, but Kaine reported all his gifts and was never accused of doing anything wrong, but that is out there
3) he had to close the restrooms on 95 during the VA State budget crisis when he was governor: people in VA still get really worked up over this one, there was a urge budget shortfall, and the GA which was republican controlled refused to really work with him or compromise on certain budget items, so he said instead of cutting special programs he closed the public rest areas along 95.
4) his wife and her family: Kaine is married to the daughter of a former Va Governor who was a republican (but had old school democratic tendencies, like he sent his daughters to public school in inner city RIchmond, pushed for desegregation, etc.). Many older generation RVAers say Kaine only got elected because of his FIL, which is pretty bogus. Also Mrs. Kaine does not look like Melania Trump, if Trump ever say disparaging remarks re her looks like he did Heidi Cruz I would be so pissed.

He's loose, he's smart, he's fun, I like him! Good pick, Hillary.
