| What are people's thoughts on West Elementary? My daughter got wait listed so high at every single school it would take a miracle. Her lowest was #85 for Breakthrough but she got matched with West. |
I would not count on Cap City or CM. Last year Cap City for PreK3 did not move much at all (less than 10) |
|
we matched at Payne (IB) for PK3 and waitlisted as follows:
Brent - 101 Maury - 93 SWS - 125 Ludlow - 52 Van Ness - 53 Cap Hill Montessori - 86 Tyler Spanish - 35 I feel like our only real shot is Van Ness but who knows what that will be like this year. We've heard very good things about Payne for PK so we're happy to have a spot. |
Whoa, Van Ness had a waitlist up to 53 for PK3? Looks like that school is becoming popular... |
Our kids were at West through 1st and we loved it. Very good early child hood and elementary. |
PK3? Definitely worth enrolling. What you think of it for upper elementary probably depends on your perspective, but PK grades get pretty universal raves. |
|
Or its just a filler school for Cap Hill families. Slow down. |
Bancroft parent here, congratulations! Logistics can be tough with kids in different schools/daycares, but at least for Bancroft there will be a bus service for the neighborhood so you won't need to drive or anything. |
My sense from other Cap Hill families is that people are excited about the possibilities of Van Ness if their own IB school isn't as great. But it's still early so time will tell how it plays out. But I think it was a very popular choice this year.

We are #105 on the Van Ness PK3 list. |
| Van Ness appeared to be a good school when I visited and asked plenty of questions. The teachers appeared to be well trained and competent. The diversity is good. The school has potential. Good blend of income and culture. They seem to focus on what works. Looking forward to their future test scores. Parking was lousy. Area is really developing. |
What all this means, is DC needs more Prek options
|
Hi 105; we're 106. Best of luck to your child. |
