Pre-K3 and PK4 Lottery Results

And DC needs to replicate best practices as well as determine what families are really looking for and what they don't want. Need to find a way to inquire or observe without making parents need to be politically correct with answers. There does seem to be a lot of candidness in this forum. What do parents want? It seems to be more than great building renovations. Some of these renovated schools tea sly look good.

Not just Capitol Hill, families across the river too. I know a couple of families whose kids attend and they seem happy
Anonymous wrote:My sense from other Cap Hill families is that people are excited about the possibilities of Van Ness if their own IB school isn't as great. But it's still early so time will tell how it plays out. But I think it was a very popular choice this year.

Brent - 101
Maury - 93
SWS - 125
Ludlow - 52
Van Ness - 53
Cap Hill Montessori - 86
Tyler Spanish - 35

I feel like our only real shot is Van Ness but who knows what that will be like this year. We've heard very good things about Payne for PK so we're happy to have a spot.

Whoa, Van Ness had a waitlist up to 53 for PK3? Looks like that school is becoming popular...

Or its just a filler school for Cap Hill families. Slow down.

Ludlow-Taylor - #22
Brent - #36
SWS - #10

Two Rivers Young - matched

We have friends at Two Rivers Young. They are very happy there.

Wow - I am surprised you got wait listed at JO.

The principal is great.

50's for Peabody (OOB with sibling pref)
60's for AppleTree LP
80's for Tyler SI
30's for Tyler traditional <- seems to be our best shot at the moment
170's for Maury
280's for CHM
270's for TR 4th
320's for SWS
130's for Ludlow-Taylor
Beers matched (but not sure we'd choose this over just staying in our current daycare's preschool program, and trying again next year for PK4)

We got into Appletree LP PK3 with a number in the 100's last year, they get pretty far into their waitlist.

We were 34 and got in on May 2 to apple tree lp and I know they moved very farther down the waitlist after that.

#9: Two Rivers Young
#13: Capitol City
#6: JO Wilson (out of bounds)

30s for ITS, Stokes, Creative Minds (seems very very unlikely, I know)

Would love any feedback. We have a decent back up that we feel good about (private Catholic).

I think you'll be in somewhere certainly before the end of summer.

We were higher than you on JOW PK3 WL last year & got offered a spot in late May.

PK3 at JOW is strong, great teachers & principal, involved families.

Welcome to Payne. We're there right now and it has been a great experience. We can't wait for PK4 next year.

Sincere question- why would you rank Brent or Maury when it's mathematically impossible for you to get in?

Anonymous wrote:PK3 - 40s and 50s for Mundo Verde and Bancroft so no hope. Low teens for Cleveland Spanish. I'm not sure how far Cleveland Spanish went into their WL after Round 1 last year - anybody know? I'm assuming since they only take 8 English dominant kids we don't have a chance.

50s for Bancroft? I just added it to my post-lottery app for PK3 and we're #7, no preference.

Sounds like you are #7 of post-lottery applicants.

Guess they aren't opening 3 new classes... So disappointed.

Was there discussion of Oyster opening new classes?

Is this right? I thought there was only one wait list for each school. For example, I added Breakthrough to our post-lottery app and got WL #135. I can't imagine 134 people applied post-lottery to Breakthrough already.

Anonymous wrote:We got Langley and I know we're not the only ones. We are planning to enroll and I'm optimistic about it. No plans to move-- Bloomingdale is too nice to leave without a few more spins of the wheel.

Same here! Visited lots of amazing charters and had high hopes, but Langley is a beautiful school with a good principal, plus I like the STEM angle. Helps to know lots of other families who similarly were shut out of the charters and will be joining us there next year. So, onward! And by onward I mean to Langley, not to the burbs.

Wait List:
Capital City PCS--#15
Creative Minds-- #15
DC Bilingual-- #34
Shepherd-- #21
Stokes French-- #22
Stokes Spanish--#30

We got into our #7 choice of our inbound school--Barnard.

Feeling hopeful that we might get into our top 2 or Shepherd.

What do folks think?

We were #1 on the WL for Cap City last year for PK3 and did not get a call! I think siblings actually moved ahead of us. I only actively followed the WL for 2-3 months though. I think Cap City is a special case though for siblings because it goes all the way through high school. I think you will get in somewhere with your WL numbers. Also I have friends who were happy with Barnard for PK...I think the issue though was many kids leaving in older grades.

Pk3 or 4?

This list is for PK3

I would not count on Cap City or CM. Last year Cap City for PreK3 did not move much at all (less than 10)
