no you don't. the largest pipeline to consulting/finance is UG recruiting @ HYPSW. That said, you can break in from grad school but it is certainly not necessary. And most of the time, especially at MBB consulting, you can get b-school paid for by the firm if they want you back and you want to come back to the firm. that's why breaking in after UG is valuable. |
There r quite a few kids who have chosen Olin instead of MIT. |
Seems the bad economy and Big Ten move is pushing UMD into rarified air. |
lacrosse? umm no they are always and always will be the step child in lacrosse. |
Huh? The girls have the most championships in history and are a dynasty. The men have 10 national championships and the most final fours and Acc championships and the most final fours in the game. It's the best men's/woman's lacrosse school in the country. |

I love that everyone is a Terrapin booster.
But College Park has a 47% admission rate and an even higher in-state rate. It's yield is relatively low, just 1 in 4 admittees chooses to attend. It's a good school but not that hard to get in and it's a safety for most of its applicants. So there is no need to whip up admissions anxiety. |
Pretty cool beating ucla and Unc . Wisconsin seems to have slipped. I know Illinois has a really high math SAT requirement . |
I think the poster was referring to st. johns not being a strong lacrosse school. |
Wisconsin seems more focused on GPA than test scores. |
| UMD is still not too terribly difficult to get in. However, acceptance to UMD's Limited Enrollment Programs (LEP) (e.g., Business and Engineering..etc.) is more difficult. |
Most of the kids going to Illinois take the ACT; the SAT scores are from a much smaller bunch of OOS kids, and are less representative of the average student than the ACT score. |

Anyone know how hard UMDCP is to get in for an artsy kid (think music/dance/theater/painting)?
DS has about a 3.2 now (junior year). Smart, but doesn't like to study. Sigh. Loves the arts, though. |
DD was accepted to scholars. You get 2 years guaranteed housing, live with the other kids in your "college" (can't remember if that's the term for it). DD had to choose which "college" she wanted to join. She ended up going elsewhere, but it seemed like a nice program. She did not apply for it. There's no application, nor is there an application for the Honors College. They just select kids from the applicant pool. |
This is us. DD was not happy about it, but she wasn't paying either, and we refused to take out loans. She's happy now, so all's well that ends well.... |
The STEM subjects, journalism, business and education majors are highly ranked. UMD seems to crank out incredible numbers of entrepreneurs and the alumni are star-studded. UMD won the "championship " for the nations most influential and/or famous alumni. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-sports-bog/wp/2015/03/17/how-maryland-won-a-celebrity-alumni-ncaa-bracket/ I don't think many schools in the country can compete with the internship / job opportunities UMD enjoys being 10 minutes from the Capitol Building, 2 metro lines and having installations of the National Archives/Phillips Collection(on the way)/ NASA / NOAA / Homeland Security/ FDA/ USDA/ the National Weather Prediction Facility/ The American Physics Institute/ Raytheon / The center for International language on campus . Plus UMD has more Nobel / Academy Award/ Emmy / fields medal (mathematics Nobel)/ Pulitzer alumni and national championships than any school in the ACC. The Soccer, Field Hockey, men's / women's basketball and lacrosse are perennial national championship contenders. Being a terp is a lot of fun. |
