How difficult is it for a Maryland resident to get into UMCP these days?

The CCs are not glamorous but they are still good schools with decent facilities. I have known a lot of people who paid their own way and saved a huge amount of money this way. When I was a student at UMBC I found the CC transfers were surprisingly good students who were serious about their work. I was very impressed.

But it doesn't have to be UMDCP, right? It can be any one of the UMD schools, right?

I thought this was true for all UM campuses.

UMD's strength is not just because MD has a great talent pool.

FWIW, UConn and UMDCP are tied for 57th with GWU and Worcester Polytech, per USNews rankings.

My neighbor's kid passed up on Carnegie Mellon, MIT, and a couple other top shelf schools for UMCP. Simple reason, instate tuition. Since the downturn of the economy and horrible job market, it just doesn't make sense to go into debt for the high price institutions.

I believe it's a 3.0 not 2.0.

Look at incoming SATs and World University Rankings.

I don't know what they are smoking at US news , but I figure since they are a failure in their chosen news business then they probably aren't too bright.

SAT. ACT

UMD 1340. 32
Ucla. Not rep. 31
Unc. 1315. 32
Wisc. 1255. 29
Ill. 1345. 29

All other Big ten schools are lower than UMD ,Wisconsin and Ill except NW and Mich.

Makes sense. Md has a highly educated an rich population compared to other states and with alumni like Brin/Henson /Chung /Dipandi/Fiorina/O malley/Hoyer/Esiason/Plank and Bernstein , all the national championships and the preppy lacrosse vibe it's a special place.

With such a distinct writing and punctuation style , it is very easy to see when someone is sockpuppeting . Stop it , MD booster !!

It is. If you have a 4.0 I think you can transfer after 1 year.

One of UMD's many genius graduates Jim Henson turned sock puppets into an American institution!

Where would we be without google, muppets and Seinfeld ???

smart move UNLESS nabe's kid wants to do consulting or finance. MIT would've been worth the debt load because the recruiting is almost on par with HYPSW for those two fields.

He'd need a graduate degree for those anyway. It's a good idea to save the name-brand school for graduate work anyway.
