Is percentile ranked by age group or all 2nd graders? |
| It does not say how they age adjust. What I would love to know is how many missed questions equals 95%. |
| I believe it is a percentile rank based on where the scores fall when compared to the rest of the FCPS second grade population--not separated by age. I have not heard anything about different scales by race or disability status. This test is administered to all second grade students who are participating in the general education instructional program (ESOL, special ed., etc). |
| I just called the testing office and spoke with a very helpful testing specialist who confirmed that this year's CogAT form for second graders was NOT scored by age. Ugh, not good for my young-for-his-grade child. Whether you are already 8 years old, or you are the youngest second grader in FCPS, all the scores are considered the same way. The specialist did say that if you request a retest in a different year, all the other forms are scaled by age, so it is only this year's second grade form where age does not matter. He did not know whether AAP selection committee would consider age in any determinations. He pointed out that the Naglieri was scaled by age and other tests such as WISC are accepted for the AAP application as well. |
| Wow, so I guess this will just lead to more redshirting! |
| Wow, not separating by age really makes a big difference to those sent on time when compared with kids given the gift of time that are 18 months older. |

| What would be most helpful to know is what composite score qualifies for 95th-ile. |
| Why would it be helpful? |
Probably so they know if they are in the pool or not. Of course it doesn't matter if a student is in the pool or not as students can be referred and treated Just The Same as a student that is in the pool. |
|
But statistically/historically your chances of acceptance are somewhat less if you are parent-referred versus in the pool, if only because your test scores are lower, so it seems understandable to want to be in the pool.
Composite score would be good to know since it seems to equate roughly to an IQ score, so it would be interesting to hear if 95% on CogAT was 132 and so the same standard as the NNAT. Probably it must be so even if not stated? |
| To 14:48 That does not make sense. Its already known that if you score above 95 percentile you are in the pool in one of the 3 cogat tests. |
NNAT is age normed but not CogAT? Doesn't make sense. FCPS or the testing center folks are really nuts!! |
| On the letter for cogat, the childs age including months is listed indicating the scores were adjusted for age somehow. |
