When to expect the CogAt test scores letters? ( not just the in pool letter)
Has anyone received them? |
I doubt it. Schools have not received the scores yet. Sometime this week.. Calm down all! Life will continue, and be good, no matter when you get "the scores". |
| The schools haven't received them yet, so they can't be send yet. We just got the memo on Friday to send them out to parents when they arrive at the school. My guess is that they are being delivered today or tomorrow to schools. |
| This is really annoying and seems orchestrated by the county to frustrate people-deadline to refer or provide additional materials to support a child's application is due next Friday-they sure aren't giving a very ample window for parents, largely by design!!! |
How so? It's a one-page referral. One assumes that if you are making a referral that 98% of what you include in the referral is about behaviors you are seeing in your child. How does getting a couple of numbers this week impose a burden? If you think the county is purposed holding scores to frustrate people, you have some serious issues. It's not all about you, honey.

PP, I could not disagree more. First, the tests were administered in October, I believe, and they are computer scored. Do you really think that this kind of delay in getting them out is not squarely in the control of Fairfax County? They were sent out weeks earlier in previous years.
Second, by delaying them they put parents who want to refer their kids to the pool in a box. By not seeing the scores, there is little to no time for a retest of the CoGat at GMU or to schedule a WISC IV. At this point only those in the pool know where their kids stand, I don't believe there were letters sent that saying "your kid was very close, but is not in the pool, if you are going to do a referral and alternative test, start working on it". |
^^An absolutely stellar example of a Fairfax County Helicopter Parent |
I agree completely!!!!!! |
Newsflash: FCPS does not score them - they are sent out to be scored. PLUS this year was the first year for the Fairfax Abilities Test. Ever heard of things taking a little more time the first time around?
False. Not for at least the past three years. Scores have been/were very delayed. In fact, parents that phoned the FCPS AAP offices were advised to ready a referral "just in case" the scores did not reach parents in time.
Good luck with that. GMU will not do a retest using the CogAT for at least a year after the last administration of the CogAT.
A WISC is not needed for a parent referral. It is often advised for an APPEAL but the APPEAL deadline is MAY 31. That is plenty of time to schedule a WISC.
So you now want FCPS to send a letter to the parents of over 13K 2nd grade students?!?

You can only take the Cogat once in a year, and GMU typically only offers it in the fall and spring. A WISC is around $400 and typically only used for an appeal.
The only thing you need time to do if you are surprised to find your child isn't in the pool is fill out the referral form. If you feel strongly that your child needs AAP, nothing is preventing you from filling out the referral form, collecting work samples and filling out the parent questionnaire now. Then if you don't need the referral form, don't turn it in. This really isn't rocket science, people. Stop acting like you're being set up to fail. |
Clearly someone in Fairfax county has had the scores, hence the ability to send out in pool letters. Why it's so difficult to get scores to the schools and parents is beyond comprehension. Having said that, as a parent, you know before you receive the scores whether you think your child belongs in the advanced academics program. If you think he/she does, just fill out the paperwork and don't stress yourself out wording about when you'll get the score. It's very little effort, especially if you think this is important for your child. |
| Exactly! If they are able to send the iN pool letters, they should be capable of sending the CoGat scores too-no sense in a delay between the two.....just sayin' |
No, just the scores. |
Quite logical. So why the delay? |
Maybe they have other stuff to do, like educate other kids beside your precious? Attending school board meeting until 2 AM? |
