Can I throw my dog poo in your trash?

Anonymous
My garbage men will take drop the little bags of poo on the ground and not put them in the garbage truck.

....and here comes the dog haters...just remember, others feel the same way (inconsiderate, loud, stinky, disruptive in restaurants etc) about your bratty kids!

Not one of the PPs, but it's not the dog's fault. . .it's the dumb owners!

You guys are cracking me up... I had no idea there was such a problem with dog owners stealthily putting bags of dog poop into other people's trash cans.

well if the garbage man is refusing to take the poop in a baggie or dumping it back out then the beef should be with the garbage man/men. Do you think there is a special place where doggie poop goes? It all goes to the same place! Also where are these public trash cans that get emptied every night?

You're not supposed to throw dog poop in the trash which is why the garbage men toss it on the ground. I have a dog poo composter for my backyard so I don't have to worry about it too much. I will toss it in the trash if we are at the park or the dog park though.

Idiot #2 here. I suppose you're following the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law. If your animal's poop becomes someone else's problem in any way, you're being incredibly inconsiderate.

I don't have a dog in this particular fight, since my trash is a dumpster that I don;t have to drag or clean (so be my guest if you find yourself in my alley), but I'm really sick and tired of the crap on our streets, the extra long leashes, the occasional absence of leashes, and the expectation that Fifi's slobber won't bother me. For me, the issue is dog owner entitlement, and, although I recognize that at least you do scoop even if you dump inappropriately, I still have to agree when a PP calls you out for being one of THOSE dog owners.

Actually, I'm sorry for calling you an idiot. While we disagree on the pick up issue, we are in agreement on the other issues you raise and I think you have some good points. I dislike all the things I bolded, but, I think it goes overboard when you suggest I am one of THOSE dog owners because I may leave the bag in an available trashcan. Remember, I said if your trash bin is put away, secured on your property, I would never notice it. If it is on the street or at the curb, it's an available trashcan. I am, in fact, following the letter and the spirit of the law. The only reason my dog's bag is in any way your problem is if your garbage man removes it, which has nothing to do with me. Your problem is with your trash guy.

To you, the problem is dog owner entitlement. To me, it's the insult and entitlement of dog haters who suggest, right on this thread, that I must have a dog because I don't have a baby, and that my dog is worthy of target practice and myself of tar and feathering....all because I *may* put a sealed bag of waste in a trashcan that is in a public space. Honestly, it is this kind of hate that makes me unconcerned about your (I don't mean you personally, just the collective you) trashcan.

There may be no solution to this, but the main reason I posted was to apologize for calling you an idiot. I won't be posting on this thread again because I have a two post rule, after which I think a thread gets irritating, so I'll leave the last words to the people who will love coming back here and insulting me for what is, in reality, a pretty minor thing in life.

(No, before you ask, I'm not carrying it miles back to my house. Dogs are a part of city life. Deal with it, haters.)
PS. If you were really in NWDC, OP, you would know that there are plenty of public trash cans around if you'd prefer to carry the bag a block or so.

You are lower than the dogshit you put in other people's cans. Seriously, YOU are the epitome of every inconsiderate dog owner, you should be publicly flogged, tarred and feathered and your dogs should be taken away from you.

Yeah, although I guess we should be somewhat encouraged that she condescends to pick up her pwecious puppy's poop at all.

Dogs certainly seem to be a part of city life these days, I guess because people wait so long to have their actual human children. When I was a kid this just wasn't the case, and cities had strict poop-scooping laws to deter bad owner behavior. Not in the District, I guess. It's too bad, because the dogs themselves are inherently bad neighbors. Neighborhood peace and sanitation depend on dog owners to be considerate enough to compensate for the inherent nastiness and noisiness of their pets.

Really, idiot #1, picking up after my dog and depositing it in a trashcan is worthy of flogging? Ok, if I knew where you lived, I'd happily leave it on your sidewalk, or better yet, in your yard. As for idiot #2, poop scooping laws require I do exactly what I do, pick up after the dog and deposit it in the trashcan. This is good neighbor behavior and considerate dog owner behavior. You would like this to extend to which trashcan the bagged waste is placed in. The city doesn't care what trashcan I use and I don't either. I will use the nearest available. If you don't like it, lock up your bins on your own property. I won't go into your yard. But if your bin is at the curb, or on the sidewalk and I have a bag, I will not hesitate to use it. If you don't like that, too bad.

Have a nice day.

Idiot #1 here--yes, FLOGGING. And if you put dogshit in my yard, I would shove your face in it. Bad owner!
Bless your little heart.

And we don't have our kids shitting in people's yards or throwing their diapers in people's trash bins, do we? And this ISN'T ABOUT KIDS--I love the way the great doglovers of DCUM always throw out that strawman--"what about your KIDS"???

It's actually a valid comparison. A PP said dogs were innately bad neighbors. I would argue that kids are just as bad. I'm a parent and a dog owner.

We live in Georgetown. Our neighbor leaves her trash cans and recycling bins out by the street 24-7. Only one of them has a lid. They are rodent cafeterias. If you walk by at night, feasting rats will occasionally jump out at you. Do I feel any remorse for throwing a closed bag of poo in her can? Hell no.

Yes, apparently.

I've had people come up our driveway and put thier bag of dog poop in our trash. WTf?

Please carry the poop back to your own house.

People around here are so uptight. I'd rather have it in my cans than left on my lawn for me or my kids to step in.

You are one seriously ugly bitch.

Hit submit too soon.

Wanted to add that it is weird to walk up onto someones property and help yourself to something on it. Even trashcans.
