This thread is amazing. I ended up serving broccoli and there was plenty of leftovers.

Glad it all worked out, OP! Btw, your response to this thread seems so normal with a great sense of humor!

This thread is insane.

For the future, asparagus lovers of America: you can tie stalk bundles together with a chive, roasted red pepper strip, or green onion and that instructs buffet guests how much to take: 1 bundle. Of 3, 6, 13, whatever you decide a bundle is. Know what I mean?

OP, I'm planning a dinner party for next weekend. Just curious-how many florets per person did you prepare? Did some people take more florets than you planned for? What was the actual diameter of each floret? I mean, if they were big ones you could get away with serving a lesser number than if they were smaller. If the florets were of the larger variety, did you consider halving them which might cosmetically serve to enhance the amount of florets actually being served? Did you serve organic broccoli? Because that would add into the cost factor and therefore the portion consideration. How did you prepare said broccoli-steamed, baked, broiled? Because if they were pureed that throws a whole new wrinkle into portion estimates. Personally, I would find it very difficult to count florets with this particular method of preparation. Just curious and TIA!

We had 4 adults and 3 kids for lunch and served the asparagus then. There were leftovers. I have never not had enough of anything for a dinner party, I was just being lazy about the asparagus. No one has ever left a meal of mine hungry and if they only get 3 stalks of asparagus and instead get an extra potato, they will survive to see another day - and probably would still come over again (if only for the corned beef, which was AMAZING).

Thanks for continuing to post OP. When everybody criticizes DCUM for being bitchy and judgemental, I really wish I could point them to a thread like this one which truly demonstrates how the DCUM community comes together to help when it really matters. Sending you hugs, OP!

We do not take this lightly, are you a 3 or 5 spearer?

If it's a buffet I'd probably take 3 to start, to make sure I liked the way OP cooked them. But If I liked them, I'd want more. 5-6 stalks total.

But who says that your guests would only take one bundle? Do you post a sign? If so, do you write said sign in calligraphy? Metallic ink? Gloss or Matte paper?
