Yeah, that person seems to struggle with understanding main ideas and vocabulary/phraseology. |
| I asked our team rep if there was any updates and they said they have heard nothing from NVSL. |

Is NVSL really contemplating just not having All Stars as a real option at this point? While I understand that this is not the most important event for older swimmers, it would be a real shame for 12 and under swimmers that would miss out on the experience. In addition to the actual event many teams have traditions for their All Star swimmers that especially for the younger ones turn into core memories of summer swim and to not give them that opportunity would be pretty unfortunate.
With over 100 teams in NVSL, I'm sure each team would happily submit a $100-$150 donation which would lock in $10-$15k in guaranteed host fees on top of what they take home in concessions. It feels like throwing $$$ at the problem would be an incentive for more pools to host. |
| I guess folks who really love these events are going to have to get it together and problem solve. Most people do not care. |
To answer your questions, yes. It was stated that if some pools do not come forward then all stars would not be held this year. At the time they were just talking about IAS but since that time the host for ASR backed out as well. So, my guess, is now both meets are in jeopardy for this season. There have been years where these meets were not held, so it does happen. As for the money, there are 102 teams in the league but most teams do not participate or send many participants. So it was suggested this past season to suggest entrant fees (per relay or per swimmer) that would given to the host pool. The league cannot impose that this year because they have to propose something like that in advance. This was put out there at the league meeting this past Spring as something that would go in effect next season. There are already pools in discussion to host for next season, so perhaps the guaranteed money is having the desired effect. So next season, looks to be good, but this season is in jeopardy. The Board did state that if by mid-April there were no viable hosts, they would cancel the All Star meets for this season. It would likely just be a virtual meet then. |
I REALLY wish people would stop repeating this. My 17 year old would be mighty upset if either meet was cancelled - but relays in particular. It's his favorite meet of the year (and I know he's not the only one). |
I agree. Most of the NVSL does not care about these meets because only the top swimmers swim in these events. Mostly from upper division pools. We have a 180 person team. We send 2-3 relays to All Star Relays and 4 to 8 swimmers to Individual All Stars. There is one family with multiple swimmers that make it in, in multiple events and it means the most to them. They also never volunteer to work either meet. They are to busy curating the perfect social media post of the event (with signs, happy ads, etc) and can't be bothered to volunteer and help. They will be devastated, but they would not step up. They do the minimum. So the families that benefit the most on our team, do the least. |
| The concept of per entry fees is not a new one to most families that participate in year round swimming. It seems to me this would be a pretty non-controversial amendment to the rules, but not sure of specifics of if off-cycle changes are permitted. |
All Star Relays is FUN. The fact that they moved it to the morning is so much better. I feel like a Wednesday morning would not be so disruptive to a pool's membership. |
It will be implemented in summer 2027. |
| In 2025, 91 of the 102 teams in the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) were represented at the All-Stars meet, so to say that only top division teams send swimmers is not an accurate statement. |
I agree that teens still like these meets, but not to the same level that the under high school crowd loves them. High School kids have more going on in their lives, more activities, sports, friends, travel, etc. so it is not to the same level of importance. And as a kid ages up their world expands and NVSL becomes smaller and smaller in the priorities. Working, applying for colleges, internships, long course, etc. all end up taking over. So it is not as big of a deal, it just isn't. |
Ma'am - this is DCUM. All threads end up with some virtue signaling at some point. It's what we do. |
And how many of those teams were in the orphan tent? Yes, my team sends a swimmer or two to the meet. We get to be in the orphan tent because we don't even have enough swimmers to be allowed space for a team tent. So my team should be paying $100 for that experience while D1 is sending 20 kids and has two team tents? That is a pretty disingenuous statistic. |
There are lots of posts about how D1-D3 teams should be hosting these meets, running these meets, and giving up their facilities for them. They have the most swimmers attending and therefore their families should be running these events. |
