Is NVSL really contemplating just not having All Stars as a real option at this point? While I understand that this is not the most important event for older swimmers, it would be a real shame for 12 and under swimmers that would miss out on the experience. In addition to the actual event many teams have traditions for their All Star swimmers that especially for the younger ones turn into core memories of summer swim and to not give them that opportunity would be pretty unfortunate. With over 100 teams in NVSL, I'm sure each team would happily submit a $100-$150 donation which would lock in $10-$15k in guaranteed host fees on top of what they take home in concessions. It feels like throwing $$$ at the problem would be an incentive for more pools to host.
To answer your questions, yes. It was stated that if some pools do not come forward then all stars would not be held this year. At the time they were just talking about IAS but since that time the host for ASR backed out as well. So, my guess, is now both meets are in jeopardy for this season. There have been years where these meets were not held, so it does happen. As for the money, there are 102 teams in the league but most teams do not participate or send many participants. So it was suggested this past season to suggest entrant fees (per relay or per swimmer) that would given to the host pool. The league cannot impose that this year because they have to propose something like that in advance. This was put out there at the league meeting this past Spring as something that would go in effect next season. There are already pools in discussion to host for next season, so perhaps the guaranteed money is having the desired effect. So next season, looks to be good, but this season is in jeopardy. The Board did state that if by mid-April there were no viable hosts, they would cancel the All Star meets for this season. It would likely just be a virtual meet then.
