Other summer swim leagues charge entry fees for champs and host the meet in a real venue.

I don't disagree with this practice, particularly with IAS which is of no benefit to the teams since it is not scored and it is after the season is over. I find it off that divisionals does not count for points and it creates an odd dynamic in NVSL. |
| I feel like it would be weird to suddenly switch from meters to yards for the champs meet. |
The examples mentioned are easily walkable between the two pools. I feel like it would be similar to champs meets at UMD where the boys and girls pools run simultaneously. |
What kind of odd dynamic are you referring to? |
The summer league we used to belong to had divisionals count towards points that impacting team standings. Similar to VHSL. This invests the team, coaches, etc. to put the best line up forward, cheer for others, because the team points matter. NVSL divisionals do not count nor do IAS. Most teams will let swimmers pick whatever events they want. I know our coaches will tell swimmers if they ask what they will do best in but oftentimes the swimmer will pick whatever events they like not caring on how they do or thinking that they know better. On the other hand divisional relays and ASR do count for the team and the points matter. So teams and coaches are invested in them. It is odd to have meets that the team and coaches don't have huge investments in. |

Long time NVSL family. ASR is what many of the league swimmers love most; IAS less so (especially as they age). Honestly, the league should just dump IAS. Everyone is exhausted at that stage of summer and most just want to leave the DMV and it's oppressive heat and humidity and head on fanily vacations (and not have to look at a NVSL pool for a couple of weeks). The league should find a long term solution for ASR. They know which faciities physically can (for example Mt. Vernon Park) and cannot (for exampel Dowden Terrace) host such a meet. I suspect they're a few dozen who can and put rotate through the list every year. Your pool will have to host once every 2-3 decades...no big deal. |

This is completely untrue FYI. Would love to know what pool you are at. |
| Wait, results from NVSL Divisionals (where the fastest few swimmers in the events from each team in the division, ideally all teams have same number of swimmers) do not count toward the final standings? That can’t be. |
Correct. Divisionals is not team scored. The division winner is determined before that meet and the trophy awarded at Divisionals |
If it’s a 50m pool with a bulkhead, it can be changed to scm. Some pools are also scy one and scm the other way. |
Yes. Divisionals does. It count for anything not IAS. |
Divisionals and IAS are a best of the best B meet (developmental and not team scored) even with the same events. It is the only time IM is swam. It is kind of odd in that context. Most other leagues score divisionals and it is the same events as the A meet. |
No. Divisionals in NVSL does not count for standings in any way. That is decided before the meet even begins. |
I mean I get what you are saying- but ASR is almost exclusively the domain of the most competitive teams. IAS means great swimmers from all divisions can get in. In order to get to swim at ASR, the swimmer not only has to work super hard themselves, but also have 3 teammates in their age group capable of all star swims. |
