It's certainly possible. I see Paramount teams registered for both Big South and Far West. These are both tournaments that historically have slightly weaker fields (compared to Sunshine, Lone Star, MEQ, Show Me, etc) and can offer a good shot at picking up an open bid How have the Paramount teams done so far in open qualifiers? Even in a qualifier with lots of teams already having bids, a team still needs to make the gold bracket to be eligible to get a trickle down bid. The requirement to make the gold bracket to get a bid can play out in interesting ways. In the 18 Open division at MEQ this coming weekend, there are something like 17 teams that already have open bids (of 48 teams registered). They are taking 12 teams into the gold pools (4 pools of 3 teams). With those kinds of numbers, it's possible that no new team will get an open bid there, which seems a little counterintuitive given that more than 1/3 of the field already has open bids. |
14s haven't played any yet. Four qualifiers still to play per the club website (NEQ, Big South, Show Me, SLC) 15s and 17s both fell one win short of qualifying at Boston. 17s missed out on gold pools at NEQ after losing two tight three-set matches in Round 2 - 15-13, and 24-22 (!). 16s made gold pools at Boston but went 0-2. Had a tough draw in the first round at Northern Lights and didn't make it to the D1 Round 2 pools. 15s, 16s, 17s all slated to play Big South, Show Me, SLC (again, per the website; didn't check actual registrations). |
Definitely possible then - as you noted, earning a bid is often about getting a good draw, winning the matches you're supposed to (against lower seeds), and then winning a few matches against higher seeds. |
Actual results from bid regionals (top 4 teams in each age group): 11s 1. Metro 11 Travel 2. Paramount VBC 11 Maureen 3. Libero 11 Huskies 3. MVSA 11 Chaos 12s 1. MDJRS 12 Elite 2. Metro 12 Travel 3. Paramount VBC 12 Jaz 4. MVSA 12 Vortex (CH) 13s 1. Paramount VBC 13 Walter 2. Metro 13 Travel 3. MVSA 13 Wahoo! 4. MDJRS 13 Elite 14s 1. Blue Ridge 14 Blue 2. MVSA 14 Force 3. BAVA 14 Waves 4. American 14 Red 15s 1. Blue Ridge 15 Blue 2. Paramount VBC 15 Nick 3. Metro 15 National 4. MDJRS 15 Elite Black 16s 1. Paramount VBC 16 Maureen 2. Blue Ridge 16 Blue 3. LIBERO 16 HUSKIES 4. LEVBC U16 National 17s 1. Paramount VBC 17 Nick 2. VA Juniors 17 Elite 3. MVSA 17 Blaze 4. VA Elite 17's My 2 cents on todays's results: I'm not feeling motivated to update the bids earned list that started this thread, but I'm pretty sure Metro has the most bids at this point. They already had 5 open bids plus 18 North has a freedom bid and they likely got at least 4 additional bids today, making at least 10 total. Metro's new 11 Travel team winning bodes well for future seasons. 2nd place for both 12 and 13 Travel is solid, although I'm sure they were hoping for 1st. Only Metro National team with a high finish was 15 National finishing 3rd. 16 National wasn't ranked high enough to be accepted into bid regionals and 17 National finished 7th, so probably out of the conversation for any reallocated bid, but Metro having two non-Travel teams earning bids is not something that usually happens. Paramount seems to have earned at least 7 bids today. In addition to the 6 teams that finished in the top 4, I think CHRVA had 5 bids at 14s meaning the Paramount 14s likely got a freedom bid. It's probable at least one or two of their teams could still win an open bid, but that probably won't change their overall bid count. I don't think any of the Paramount 2nd teams finished high enough to expect a reallocated bid and I don't think 18s are likely to get one either. Paramount winning 3 divisions is a solid performance, but perhaps slightly below expectations with so many Metro Travel teams not at regionals. Blue Ridge confirms they are 3rd strongest club in CHRVA with 2 age group wins and a 2nd place. MVSA still really strong, but has lost their dominance in the younger age groups. Libero quietly becoming a real CHRVA contender. MDJRs pretty strong at younger age groups, but older teams didn't finish highly. VA Elite and VA Juniors with not great results - probably still belong in the conversation for stronger CHRVA clubs, but not top 5 anymore. |

Blue Ridge 14 eliminated Paramount 14 in 3 sets, and Blue Ridge 15 defeated Paramount 15 in 3 sets in the 15 finals.
Blue Ridge mentioned on its instagram that it decided to participate in the regionals because this year’s nationals are close to home. |
All 5th and 6th place finishers in the U14 and U15 age groups earned bids due to the fact that there were 5 bids available (1 National, 2 American, and 2 Freedom) and due to the fact that Blue Ridge 14 Blue and Blue Ridge 15 Blue each had USA Bids from the Sunshine Qualifier. So, Paramount VBC 14 Jaz and Premier Edge 14 earned Freedom Bids. Paramount VBC 16 Alec (16-2) finished 5th and earned a Freedom Bid. VA Juniors 15 Elite and BAVA 15 Blaze finished 5th and 6th, respectively, earning Freedom Bids. All of the top 3 finishers in the U12 Division (MDJRS, Metro and Paramount Jaz) earned bids. Typically there are only two bids available in that age group but MDJRS 12s earned a USA Bid in Boston earlier this season, so there were three bids available. |

I'll update the first post when the official spreadsheets are updated. Last week's update didn't come until late Thursday or Friday, so I just incorporated Metro 18s Open bid. The National division bid they earned now goes to VAJRS 18s, and so on. I think Metro 18 North now gets a Freedom division bid as an ultimate result. I'm also eager to see if any other National division bids come up for reallocation. CHRVA is third in line at most age groups to get a second National division bid. Who knows? Maybe a CHRVA team will come through with a bid from NEQ after not participating at Bid Regionals. I think more than one team made the Gold bracket there in their chosen divisions in Philadelphia. All boys qualifiers are done and all bids should be claimed, but the spreadsheet doesn’t reflect the final bid earners. Some worksheets are still completely blank. |

Some teams exceeded expectations, while others fell short.
Every team that earned a bid deserves full credit and respect. Volleyball—like any competitive club sport—is intense, emotional, and often heartbreaking in the end. |

Metro 16 National won the 16 American Blue division at NEQ adding another bid for Metro, putting them at 11 bids overall.
A few other CHRVA teams did well, including MVSA 12 Vortex and Paramount 12 Jaz tied for 3rd in 12 American and Blue Ridge 14 Orange 3rd in 14 American Red. Not sure if this means bid upgrades or new bids for any of these teams. |

Another huge qualifier this weekend is the "2026 Big South National Qualifier Weekend 2."
Qualifying Divisions: 12 National, 12 USA, 13 Open, 13 USA, 14 Open, 14 USA, 15 Open, 15 USA, 15 American,16 Open, 16 USA, 16 American, 17 Open, 17 USA, 17 American |
| First post updated. Somehow, I initially missed that CHRVA was awarded two American bids in the 14-17 age groups this season (in addition to the two Freedom division bids the region has had for ?years?. |
VA Juniors 16s placed 3rd at NEQ in American Red, too. |
| Anyone came home with bids from Philadelphia this weekend? |
