It’s unhinged bc the OP is taking two SLACs and trying to solicit input from strangers aa to where they would fit in with ivies. It is irrelvant: - they are not ivies - ivies are not SLACs - SLACs and ivies are not clumped or evaluated together - it won’t make her or anyone else think differently about an ivy or SLAC Worthless and meaningless exercise. That’s why |
You have much higher odds and better outcomes from HYP than Williams. |
Lies about TAs, access to professors is really common. Our kid goes to Princeton and does not have the common “university” experience people here try to paint. Professors are accessible, research is everywhere, and if he wants a PhD, he could get into a program; instead, most kids can’t get a job with good outcomes, so of course they go that route rather than being an underpaid PhD student with no work life balance. |
Can* not can’t |
+1, I don’t know why Williams alum are so self important. |
What a stupid question. |
| nice trolling. Ivies >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> all LACs |
Agreed. I’ve only heard this stereotype on here, because it just isn’t true. I guess they run off of people’s naivety? |
That could be true if you are a kid at HYP who has managed to get into one of the top clubs but "much higher odds" would be a big stretch. It isn't true if you didn't make it through the club audition and are trying effectively "unhooked". If you are an athlete at Amherst, Middlebury, or Williams you will land at a bank if it what you really want. If you back it with strong grades you will land at top bank. Club admission is simple, every major recruits on campus, and the Alumni network is very real. There is a reason why they all are among the very top schools in per capita placement. |
Nice try, there are enough comments by former grad students, current professors, people have experienced both environments who have written sincere comments (as opposed to the normal nonsense, you can tell the difference) that outline what things are actually like. It may not be true for every school, in every major but the common experiences and themes don't exist in a vacuum. |
Lina Khan was also a complete abject failure. Did nothing to stop competition. See Google and other antitrust trials. |
Can already tell this is someone who hasn’t gone to an ivy. You don’t need to get into finance clubs to go into finance. While at LACs, you have to add all these conditionals on being an athlete, if you are a student at an ivy, you can land a finance gig and, at worst, there’s always consulting. The ivies dominate recruiting and outcomes compared to Williams and Amherst, especially in finance. |
"Did nothing to stop monopolist activity." Fixed this |
And I can claim to be a unicorn, doesn’t mean it’s real, just because someone says it authoritatively. |
1. A class is 3 hours (3 50-minute periods). If prof gives 2 lectures and TA does 1 discussion section, TA is teaching 1/3 of the class (and doing almost all the grading and equal office hours, so it is more like 40%). Compare that to the prof teaching all 3 hours, grading everything etc. — for only 20 students. 2. Top SLACs don’t have ABDs teach. |
