Dude seriously, Wmata does care, why do you think they’ve been upgrading all the fare gates?

So even if these two "girls" (and I use quotes in place of the actual word I am thinking) are arrested and put in jail, hundreds of thousands of public dollars will be spent on them between their court cases and prison care. But this man's family will be given ... what exactly? Pity? So sorry for your loss statements? I am so sick over so many resources going towards the trash of the world instead of to the innocent victims.

Are there any organizations that fight for the victim and/or victim's families beyond the initial offering of support? If anyone knows of such an organization, please let me know as I would like to support them with my dollars and time.

AMEN!

In DC there is DC Witness. Not sure about NoVA.

Because we can’t racial profile

Also l need to say how traumatizing do you think this was for the train operator and the people who had to pick up the body? Have some common sense.

Why weren’t these girls in school? If school couldn’t keep them in school, they should be in juvie. Where were their parents?

No one is blaming the victim. I was the one to point out that if the station managers do not care, if the WMATA leadership does not care, why should they expect me to police fare evaders and risk injury or death to myself? Because if they cared, they would be doing a hell of a lot more to stop it.

I commute through Union Station and see people jumping over the terminals (or whatever they are called) all the time. So do the station managers. Oh and there is usually plenty of police and now national guard around.

Why are you making this about yourself? Is this some MPC straw man? Where did the delusion anyone expects you to police fare evaders come from?

This story is about the victim and his murderers. Not you.

How do you force the gates to close? I didn't understand that part of the story.

And doesn't that imply that they were chasing him from before and he tried to use the gates to get away?

I don’t think the video showed that, maybe there is more footage from outside? The report was just that they tried to tailgate through on his fare. He was just paying to enter the system. They easily jumped the gates, for the $ spent, should have been made a bigger obstacle.

Dude, I see people jumping those every single day. I'm not confronting anyone over a $2 fare. That's WMATA's job.

Last month there was knife fight in Minnie Howard

Last week there was a mob assault in Arlandria as “retaliation” for being disrespected.

That crazy guy assaulted/beat up 2 woman in June (one at Potomac Yard metro, one outside of Braddock).

There was a man finally arrested for flashing and masterbating in public in Del Ray and Rosemont.

There was a brothel on West Street.

Several shoot outs in Arlandria this summer.

Some guy got mad over a Tik Tok, drove up here from PWC to shoot someone in Alexandria.

yeah, nothing to see here.

But putting people in prison does not work. We need to provide people with the wrap-around services they truly deserve.

I have absolutely no problem with wrap-around services (heck - start them from time of conception!) but I am not naive enough to not realize there are some parents who are so far gone that no wrap-around service will be enough to truly counter the negative parenting job they are doing on their kids. (Except if the wrap-around service is to take kids from those parents and put them in a home of some sort?) Sadly, there will always be some people who the wrap-around services won't be able to reach. Like these two girls and their families (parents, any siblings).

What do you do with those people then? Can they really be part of society?

Because there are large swaths of neighborhoods filled with people who are essentially penned in. Most of them, lack the skills and resources to flee, so they are stuck. From there, it just continues, generation after generation. Not always, but often times, being poor and desperate leads people to do stupid stuff. Some folks will blame society, and others will blame the government. Some people will automatically blame racism, while others will blame the parents. At the end of the day, those two females are a menace to greater society and need to be kept away for a while.

That’s not all. Alexandria is conveniently located off of 495 and 395, meaning you can come in and out quickly from Maryland and DC. Route 1, including in Potomac Yard, is infamous for people coming across the bridge from Maryland, taking first exit onto Rt 1, committing crime (like car jacking) and jumping right back on 495 to flea back to Maryland. Same holds true for DC, crossing over 14th Street bridge, either go straight to Pentagon City/Crystal City/So Arlington or go 1/2 mile more into Alexandria, rob some stuff, race back into DC where the Virginia police will abandon the chase once you get on the bridge.

The gas stations in south OT (the Liberty and the other one) right on RT 1 are notorious for this. People steal your car while you’re pumping gas, drive it across to Maryland, take first exit at National Harbor and start spending. Or maybe they go to Oxon Hill exit, buy a bunch of gift cards. ALL OF THE TIME

So it’s not just Alexandria residents. Not at all.

We should put a metro stop near them!

Fare evasion is down since the gate improvements. People who really want to will find a way. I use the metro. It pisses me off too but l know better than to confront potentially violent people. Not victim blaming here but warning others be smart and stay out of their way. Same as in the street. When l wax younger a young teen threatened me for “staring” at him in a McDonald’s. I wasn’t but he was making out with his girlfriend in the restaurant and l was looking for a seat and quickly moved away. Things like this over the years have made me cautious about protecting myself.

Your fault for being in a crappy McDonald’s
