Wonder if there was a station manager on duty.

1) you dont. Just don't worry about it. Pay your fare and keep moving. It could cost you your life to worry about someone else's $2.

2) the manager woud not have done a damn thing. They don't want to be killed either.

The photos/video indicate that they were attempting to fare jump behind him when he entered the station, but he turned and closed the fare gate doors behind him to prevent them from doing so. The girls then jump up and over the gate and start chasing him.

Also, there are very few adult men who could take on two full grown teens (these were not 13 year olds, one was an adult and the other was almost an adult) who are intent on harming him. As another poster mentioned, he's also going to be reluctant to hurt them, which puts them at a huge advantage over him because they DNGAF. Maybe you could roll up into a ball and protect your head and be okay, but the odds are good they will rob you and try to drag you.

Incidents like this make me think of that show Adolescence, and the way the boy talks about the stabbing and the death of his classmate (at his hands). He was mad at her. She'd made fun of him. She deserved to be punished. And he can't really discuss the situation beyond that because he's so emotionally stunted. I think that's where these kids are at when they do this stuff. It's pure id, totally untethered from a sense of morality, or personal responsibility. I don't think this man was really even a person to these girls.

The internet is helping to raise more sociopaths.

I can’t wrap my head around chasing down someone who simply stopped me from doing something I wasn’t allowed to do. Throw the book at them.

Just in August a 15 yr old pistol whipped a man on the metro, put him in a chokehold, shoved a gun into his side, and robbed him right before getting off at the King Street station, where he then got on a bus to Armistead Street.

Last month there was knife fight in Minnie Howard

Last week there was a mob assault in Arlandria as “retaliation” for being disrespected.

That crazy guy assaulted/beat up 2 woman in June (one at Potomac Yard metro, one outside of Braddock).

There was a man finally arrested for flashing and masterbating in public in Del Ray and Rosemont.

There was a brothel on West Street.

Several shoot outs in Arlandria this summer.

Some guy got mad over a Tik Tok, drove up here from PWC to shoot someone in Alexandria.

yeah, nothing to see here.

This is so incredibly sad and infuriating. They must know who the two girls are as they have their age but they have no been arrested why??? And they're only going to be arrested for assault and battery not murder? Not manslaughter?! Why not? And the city has a habit of letting these people go or not even arresting them in the first place.

Many of the dumb questions in this thread could be resolved by actually clicking the link OP posted and looking at the photos on the news story.

Yes, the fare doors close behind you automatically. However, fare jumpers will often walk right up behind a paying customer and force their way through the gates before they close. There's a bit of a delay to allow for people moving slowly, rolling a suitcase, walking through with a small child (children under 5 ride free in DC). So fare jumpers will try to take advantage of that delay. This is especially true since they changed the design of the gates to make it harder to literally jump the gate (though as the photos on this story show, it's still possible, just more acrobatic).

Anyway, the man clearly knew the girls were trying to fare jump behind him, so instead of walking through and letting them, he stood in the gate to ensure the doors closed behind him before they could enter. That is what made them mad enough to chase him to his death -- he prevented them from stealing a $2.25 fare from the metro off the back of his payment.

Court of public opinion would’ve labeled him a racist and charged him with a hate crime.

Reminds me of the murder of Mohammad Anwar 4 years ago by two girls during an apparent carjacking.

We need to start holding parents accountable for the crimes of their kids. Guarantee the perps at Potomac Yard were already known to law enforcement.

I always see fathomless at Braddock Road and it is usually older males doing it.

+10000 What about the guy who was shot to death in July in a city of Alexandria park, his mouth was duck taped shut and they labeled it a "suicide" and all the shootings in may? The city claims the crime is going down but its not being reported or classified and charged correctly. They think no one is watching but a few of us are. This can't go under the radar much longer. I look forward to the national news picking up some of these rediculous stories that are coming out of the city of Alexandria its just embarrassing now not to mention dangerous. SMH.

There often is a group of random men drinking alcohol on the benches across from the 7-11 at the entrance to the path/crosswalk on the GW side. Never see any police enforcement. Public consumption, next to a school, during school hours. And sometimes they’re smoking weed.

The crime in Alexandria is often violent and includes guns. It’s not petty theft or car break ins.

Their parents are probably already in prison. It’s generally not salt of the earth law abiding parents raising these sociopaths.
