Man struck by train at a Alexandria Metro stop dies, he was attacked and being chased by two assailants

So even if these two "girls" (and I use quotes in place of the actual word I am thinking) are arrested and put in jail, hundreds of thousands of public dollars will be spent on them between their court cases and prison care. But this man's family will be given ... what exactly? Pity? So sorry for your loss statements? I am so sick over so many resources going towards the trash of the world instead of to the innocent victims.

Are there any organizations that fight for the victim and/or victim's families beyond the initial offering of support? If anyone knows of such an organization, please let me know as I would like to support them with my dollars and time.

AMEN!

Where do you think their parents are?

Drunk, high, in jail, at the club, sitting on a street corner somewhere shooting the $hit with friends.

Some people will say "at work" but IME the parents of teens who behave this way are NOT at work, which is an activity which would set an example of how a functional person behaves in the world.

By the time kids get to this point, they've already been robbed of functional childhoods, decent parenting, or any values system that would make them at least pause before chasing a man to his death.

This is a problem that is best solved with free birth control, abortion, or giving children up for adoption when you are so dysfunctional that you will not be able to give that child a real shot at life.

It scares me what’s going to happen as access to birth control and abortion becomes more and more challenging. More of these kids are going to be running around in a society that can’t raise them.

There often is a group of random men drinking alcohol on the benches across from the 7-11 at the entrance to the path/crosswalk on the GW side. Never see any police enforcement. Public consumption, next to a school, during school hours. And sometimes they’re smoking weed.

The crime in Alexandria is often violent and includes guns. It’s not petty theft or car break ins.

I know the group you're talking about. It's a very interracial group - black, white, sometimes latino. I don't see them on the weekdays though - mostly weekend mornings.

Its crazy that they know their identity but they are free to roam our community.

I can assure you that if you assault teenagers for any reason, you will be sued for every last cent you own.

Like they any money. Losers. I will never ride the metro.

Let’s do the same for the masked rent-a-cop wannabes chasing members of our community and kidnapping them.

You are using those words incorrectly.

This. I have a driver and I feel bad for anyone who has to take public transport.

Don’t assume bad parents didn’t want their kids. Often bad parents weren’t parented well themselves. They believe they can do better and sometimes they did, but it wasn’t enough different to overcome other factors in juvenile delinquency.

There are also outliers in families of all socioeconomic backgrounds. One of my five siblings is in prison for violent crimes. None of the rest of us have been arrested ever. Two of us are parents ourselves and our kids are law-abiding young people.

They are in DC, not in VA.

Wonder if there was a station manager on duty.

Many of the dumb questions in this thread could be resolved by actually clicking the link OP posted and looking at the photos on the news story.

Yes, the fare doors close behind you automatically. However, fare jumpers will often walk right up behind a paying customer and force their way through the gates before they close. There's a bit of a delay to allow for people moving slowly, rolling a suitcase, walking through with a small child (children under 5 ride free in DC). So fare jumpers will try to take advantage of that delay. This is especially true since they changed the design of the gates to make it harder to literally jump the gate (though as the photos on this story show, it's still possible, just more acrobatic).

Anyway, the man clearly knew the girls were trying to fare jump behind him, so instead of walking through and letting them, he stood in the gate to ensure the doors closed behind him before they could enter. That is what made them mad enough to chase him to his death -- he prevented them from stealing a $2.25 fare from the metro off the back of his payment.

I don’t think his family will believe this noble sacrifice to protect Metro’s profits was worth it.

No victims named, no suspects named even though they clearly know who they are looking for and one of them is 18! A total nothingburger, sweep it all under the rug, nothing to see here!

Do they have video?
I'm assuming they know that the women are fare evaders because of video or witnesses?

Why are you afraid of the link? I don't understand...

I watched the link elsewhere and wish I had not. DP.

Potomac Yards used to be quite safe.

RIP, he must have been so scared.
