University choice and state political climate

Good try. My husband votes D and is former military, does all his own yard work, built himself a professional grade smoker from scratch, did a good portion of our home renovations on his own, and has even built us multiple furniture pieces from wood.

This kind of absolutism makes the problem worse. Don't propagate a false binary system.

South = bad
North = good

Not all people and institutions in the South are worthy of boycotting...

This is no different than the right vilifying the woke.

I didn’t vilify the south. It just happens that many of the states passing regressive laws happen to be there. Sadly, a lot of midwestern and mountain states, too. I’m not pointing to just one area. I point to states. I’m not sending my kids to WI or ID or UT or AZ, either.

And no study abroad, correct?

The point that you seem to be missing is that truly no one else cares where your kids go to school.

Also WashU in Missouri?

There was a school that my daughter applied to just outside of St Louis. We decided to give that one a pass because of the proximity to the IL state line. In the end, she never fully completed her app with them because she already had admissions from schools closer to home that she liked.

Looking at a map, Purdue might be close enough to IL. But I don’t know about the town itself or campus climate.

I sat with maps so much during the college search process. Even briefly considered WY.

This thread is so out of touch. But I suppose it is useful in its own way, highlighting the peculiar ignorance and bigotry of the so called progressive left. Do whatever you want, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of people rushing to attend universities in southern or red states.

I love how MAGA cannot help themselves but immediately descending to childish insults and various Fox News talking points.

Trump is now president. With Congress and the court behind him. He loves to whine and complain but anything wrong now is fully on his watch. The President is supposed to be acting in the best interest of ALL Americans yet he is constantly talking about how he hates the other side and is out to get them.

How are you people OK with this? Who has brainwashed you? Your parents are rolling over in their graves - I'm pretty sure these are not the values they taught you. If you carefully read the Bible, this is not what it is suggesting.

But you keep on keeping on. Congrats. You have stuck it to the libs. You win. Yeah!

+1. Just returned this weekend from tours of Southern schools. Every one was packed with Yankees and kids from California.

Then why does anyone care what criteria we used while conducting the college search? People seem to want to put down families who did take politics into account. You do you. I’m not putting you down for whatever you decide matters.

Absolutely yes.

Aaron Judge is a Yankee from California who wears blue so I assume he was there?

They are vilifying people they think are woke! That’s why professors are leaving southern schools.
