University choice and state political climate

There is ZERO chance I would let DD apply to any school in the South. Including Virginia.

We abhor MAGAs.

This is not an educational environment for my DS, but he wasn't interested in the South, anyway. Georgia doesn't seem as bad as FLA, TX and SC.

Yes.

Children do not want to be treated poorly or possibly die for lack of healthcare-related treatment (as has happened in Texas). Since they want to live and be healthy, they are looking at NE schools and blue states.

You think you’re so clever.

I went to wake, was in the marching band. Our football team at the time was terrible, but we did get to see big time schools/stadiums. By the way, Duke’s was the worst by far-most arrogant and obnoxious bunch of fans we encountered. They literally threw trash at people - cups and nachos all over the place. Disgusting.

My husband joined the military, wound up stationed in DC, where we met. He grew up in TX and is a Longhorns fan. Got his degree as a working adult locally, but still follows his football.

Go ahead and keep stereotyping, though.

If anything, he’s influencing his more local peers by being a thinking Democrat.

He’s also gotten great merit aid and has made lots of friends. The school is 40% OOS.

If people here think I’m not going to send him there because of the political crackpots in the state, fine. But it’s been a great choice for him.

If that works for him and your family, great. I was frequently one of the only D/liberal voices at my HS and college. Many of my friends have said they appreciated that and did learn to think about some things from different perspectives. Quite a few of them have become more moderate over time, for all different reasons.

The comments on this thread basically help make this decision. Who is being insulting, defensive, insecure? MAGA

If red states are as great as you say they are, people will go there without you having to insult them first. And if they are so great, they can survive on their own without influx of funds from blue or purple states. Good luck with that!

And you can have your selfish lawn mower and snow blower. I am able to boost the economy by providing that job to someone else while I go out and help people everyday.

Those of you who want to to go to a red states, literally no one is stopping you. Go have your tailgate and lawn mower and Sorority Row (no idea what that is but enjoy it) while my family enjoys jobs and healthcare and food and family time.

Well bless your heart.

I won't forget the states and privates that forced kids to get worthless, poisonous vaccines that resulted in injuries for many and death for some athletes.

We’ve got a live one, everyone.

I agree never ever to any red state.

Only idiots who have never read Project 2025 will do so. I can not wait for their DD to be breeders, not to leave the state. Yep you didnt' read the state laws or Project 2025 idiots.

Well you’ve surely convinced me!

I thought red state colleges were doing well. What does it matter then if liberals aren't attending?

It doesn’t matter. But kids of liberal parents will attend schools located in red states so the point is moot.
