University choice and state political climate

Your little virginal princess could have an issue that requires medical expertise and might not be able to find a qualified doctor to help them. And no, flying home is not always the answer.

Similarly, these are the states that are now deciding vaccines are a bad idea. You can live in your little blue on-campus bubble but at some point hopefully will be venturing off campus and will have to interact with the locals.

And who knows how next their obnoxious MAGA legislatures will decide to "stick it to the libs" and come up with some other law that sets the country back several hundred years. These people do not want what is best for the country - their sole goal is to make Democrats angry, even if they are making things worse for themselves.

I also don't want my kid to have to be driving around and seeing statues of a racist loser like Charlie Kirk (no, he didn't deserve to die, but he was evil).

Yes. An ectopic isn’t going to wait for a young woman to get home. And again, I worry about what happens next. Will they outlaw birth control? Will a student get in trouble for possession of plan B? Will the state stop allowing removal of ovaries even in an emergency? I mean, they seem perfectly fine to tell women that doctors can’t touch them until they are on the edge of death. Why do you things woman are dying in parking lots while they bleed out?

Beyond the issues surrounding reproductive freedom and women's health, we are also seeing Republican state governments enacting legislation to eliminate programs and control state university funding, just look at Indiana:

Some of you have too much time assume many don’t cut their own lawns.

Yes- since I have daughters- there has been a lot of discussion about avoiding red states for school. They are not used to be second class citizens and don't want to start in college.

All fun and games until it is your kid suffering. But they will still blame Biden. Because everything is his fault. He is both mentally incompetent but also has brilliantly masterminded a scheme to ruin the world. Let me know what Fox News tells you to believe next while you are mowing your lawn.

Cleanest room in a liberal household is the garage. They would not know the difference between a snowblower and a lawnmower, But they have the plow guy and landscaping company phone number on speed dial

Professors are leaving southern universities because of the hostile environment. There’s a brain drain going on. Can’t blame them. Certain segment of our society are wrapping themselves in ignorance and proud of it.

Anonymous wrote:The IU v. UMich thread got me thinking more about state politics and college choice. My senior has Tulane (Louisiana) and Wake Forest (NC) on her list - along with many schools in New England. Does the state/state political climate factor into your son/daughter's decision about where to attend?

OF course !

Who in their right mind sends a kid to a rec state? Parent fail.

Red state laws are changing fast most parents never read them or haven’t read project 2025

Plus access to medical care doctors are leaning red states in droves

Try going to an emergency room in a blue state.

No worries. The big beautiful bill took away health insurance from millions of Americans, the ER will thin out if people have to pay out of pocket.

A real glutton for punishment I see. Good thing New England schools like Yale are so welcoming to the BDSM community.
