Juneteenth

Trump honored Juneteenth during his first term. This is a complete flip flop. Also, what a d*ck.

I work three jobs. Thanks Trump, for telling me I don't want an extra day off. You suck!

He only did in 2020, After the murder of George Floyd.

Is it over-weighted to have two out of 11 national holidays dedicated to black americans when there are zero dedicated to other groups, except christmas and veterans day?

You are clueless. A Federal Holiday to commemorate the abolition of slavery in what is now the most powerful country in the world is a whole hell of a lot more than just a dedication to a specific group of Americans.

Juneteenth or some other holiday commemorating the end of slavery should have become a Fed Holiday much sooner due to the historically significantly impact of slavery in this country and all around the world.

MLK Day is a white supremacist holiday to try to trick Black folk into laying down and not fighting back against oppression.

It's not Black folks' fault that every time they try to celebrate gaining their freedom the White folk take away their rights again.

Did he make this comment from the golf course, between diaper changes, during his 30 minutes of daily work?

It’s so bizarre to me that any president would go after federal holidays. Literally nobody is in favor of less holidays.

We should have one federal holiday each month so workers have one long weekend each month. We need more holidays, not less.

His bizarre stance should be a red flag.

The end of slavery isn’t specific to Texas, but Juneteenth is. The more logical date to celebrate would be the ratification of the 13th amendment, which legally ended slavery for everyone in the US.

This. They chose the wrong date.

No, he honored it before that for several years in a row.

This is from 2017:

Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Other than banks, what other businesses are closed on federal holidays like today?

Would someone please explain to me what, "for every once working day" means?

There’s no need for you to concern yourself about what he actually meant, because it’s so stupid. But in case you really are interested in that nonsense, he was attempting to say that soon there would be a holiday for every working day of the year.

...You know Juneteenth is shorthand for June 19th, right? So Thursday is the actual date.

I love how you act like this is obvious, when it could also reasonably mean June thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, or nineteenth... Why in the world do we not refer to it by something more descriptive, like the celebration of emancipation, or the end of slavery in the United States. Is absolutely something we should all celebrate in our country, but the title diminishes it as something relevant for a subset of Americans.

Do you strongly feel that Christmas should be renamed to “The day to celebrate the birth of Christ” or are you confident people have figured it out although the name of the holiday is not descriptive?

Both of these statements can be true.

Juneteenth is great. It commemorates the freeing of slaves owned by democrats by an army of republicans.

What do you think Memorial Day and Columbus Day are for?
