Juneteenth

Juneteenth has nothing to do with DEI.

In case you were wondering how Trump feels about Juneteenth, this is from his Truth (sic) Social account:

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

One of few recognized holidays in the US that are applicable to the history of our nation.

It’s 11 federal holidays total. Take out Columbus Day if you want to take one out. Even if you don’t care about Juneteenth why are we rejecting a summer holiday.

That’s not something to be proud of, unless you enjoy showing your ignorance.

MAGAs want to replace Juneteenth with 9/11 Patriots Day. And of course they want a holiday for dear leader’s bday. So I’m sure he’d be fine with any of those non-working holidays.

They really ought to replace Columbus Day with Immigrants Day. Unless you’re Native American, we are all descended from immigrants. I can’t move to Germany and become “German.” But anyone can move to the United States and become an “American.” It’s something powerfully unique to our country and has been one of the main contributors to American dominance and ingenuity.

Why we don’t have a holiday to celebration immigrants just blows my mind. It would actually be a great way to integrate them into American society.

It is a day to celebrate immigrants. More specifically Italian immigrants. It became a holiday after the largest mass lynching in American history.

The Emancipation Proclamation was of enormous consequence but why not combine it with MLK Day as has been done with Presidents Day. More than half the states don’t see it as a holiday. The Feds get a holiday but the rest of us don’t.

Black americans are about 14% of the US population.

Is it over-weighted to have two out of 11 national holidays dedicated to black americans when there are zero dedicated to other groups, except christmas and veterans day?

The celebration of the true end of chattel slavery in our country is not specific to Texas, nor is it specific to Black people. It's absolutely something our entire country should celebrate, and history we should all know. The apathy around history having to do with Black Americans as though it is not also American history is kind of gross.

The end of slavery isn’t specific to Texas, but Juneteenth is. The more logical date to celebrate would be the ratification of the 13th amendment, which legally ended slavery for everyone in the US. That said, I don’t personally care if the end of slavery is celebrated in June vs December.

Other than banks, what other businesses are closed on federal holidays like today?

Would someone please explain to me what, "for every once working day" means?
