The Emancipation Proclamation was of enormous consequence but why not combine it with MLK Day as has been done with Presidents Day. More than half the states don’t see it as a holiday. The Feds get a holiday but the rest of us don’t.

It had nothing to do with George Floyd. They had been trying to go the day recognized for decades.

It's June 19th. Unplanned holiday? What the hell? It's whatever day it falls on. Did you fall out of a tree?

...You know Juneteenth is shorthand for June 19th, right? So Thursday is the actual date.

I love how you act like this is obvious, when it could also reasonably mean June thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, or nineteenth... Why in the world do we not refer to it by something more descriptive, like the celebration of emancipation, or the end of slavery in the United States. Is absolutely something we should all celebrate in our country, but the title diminishes it as something relevant for a subset of Americans.

Stop walking around with your whole ahh hanging out.

Have you been out lately?

Pot stench, loud obnoxious voices, body odor, butt crack, pants down around thighs, folks barely dressed, fat people without bras (no that ain't pretty), folks in PJs, folks looking so ragged and on the edge of barely making it you wonder if they're going to be okay. It's all people of all colors. Cultural rot everywhere.

I'm not saying ya have to dress to the nines and act puritanical, but Jeeeeeezus.

OMG study a little history. Stupid people in TX took 2 1\2 extra years to end slavery... June 19, 1865.

There was no internet. Took a little while for the news to get all the way to TX. General Granger and his Union troops had to ride out to Galveston and let the people know.

The PP who called it a Biden holiday probably doesn't realize it passed both houses of Congress before being signed into law. Because it's actually possible to sign legislation instead of nonstop executive orders.

The celebration of the true end of chattel slavery in our country is not specific to Texas, nor is it specific to Black people. It's absolutely something our entire country should celebrate, and history we should all know. The apathy around history having to do with Black Americans as though it is not also American history is kind of gross.

+1 million to all of this.

I work for a large and very diverse place in DC - people love this holiday, particularly Black people who work here. If you think it doesn't matter, it just doesn't matter in your bubble.

The person who called it a Biden holiday is probably a MAGA idiot who wants to blame Biden for any wrong in the world and who, somehow, twists a holiday into something bad.

This is understandable, but not particularly relatable for most Americans.

African Americans are roughly 12% of the population, but they are the most vocal and persistently aggrieved minority group no matter how many programs are funded, leaders elected, artists recognized, etc.. They carry the scars of slavery and discrimination seemingly without end.

I will personally never feel any excitement or affinity for Juneteenth, but I suppose it has a role to play in teaching part of our shared history.

It's weird that Republicans love to call themselves "The Party of Lincoln" and try to take credit for freeing the slaves yet for some weird reason they totally hate the date on which the last laves were actually freed.

Make it make sense.

I wasn't even aware it was a federal holiday.

June 19th is not on a Thursday every year. Next year it will be on a Friday. Last year it was on a Wednesday. Ironic that you are calling Biden stupid.
