Regarding H1B, Trump and his co-president have strongly endorsed the program. Keep up. |
Tone deaf to dcurbanmoms, but right on with the national electorate. Approval ratings for Democrats have plunged during Trump's two months in office. Trump's ratings have slipped a little too, but nothing like what's happened to Democrats. We struggle to grok it here in DC, but "all the craziness" of Trump's first 60 days have HELPED Republicans relative to Democrats. The numbers don't lie. Back in calmer times, Republicans and Democrats worked together. Think of Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill. But now Democrats have been "fighting" for 8 years, and the voters' response was to deliver Trump every single swing state and for every Demographic group to shift toward Republicans. The number of voters who want Democrats to just obstruct for the next four years is too small to deliver election victories to Democrats. I understand the calculus that many Democratic office holders are using. They know that Trump hate is the most important motivation for the most active Democrats. And they are afraid of being primaried from the Left. BUT...they aren't going to be able to win general elections if they do nothing but obstruct. They won't be able to win back the flyover state folks and independents and soccer moms if they reject the message those voters just sent--that they want populist Republicanism right now, not establishment Democratic obstructionism. |
That's just a troll. Whoever they are talking about is better off just switching parties. Though I think the Rs get their fair share of death threats but from their own party. I'd think twice about joining that death cult. Better to just fade away and dissappear. |
You are deaf in general. I used to vote R years ago. That party is dead. These sycophants are just trying to stay alive at this point. |
Republicans for years having voted No on almost everything. Congress has the lowest approval rating and each year it continues to be lower. So Democrats should just vote No or be absent. Stop with the propaganda that all these folk want populist Republicanism. It’s a lie. What most people want and desire is an ALTERNATIVE. Quite frankly I expect more people to become Independents. |
None of his agenda is popular with hyperpartisan powerful Democrats like us. We're outraged that the Republican Party is even allowed to exist, and it's absolutely intolerable that was allowed to beat us, take office, etc. But much of his agenda IS popular with independents, flyover state middle and working class Dems, soccer moms, etc. Dramatically reducing illegal immigration, getting men out of girls' sports, getting LGBTQIA+ sex ed out of elementary schools, reducing waste and fraud in government, restoring meritocracy in hiring instead of DEI quotas, ending forever wars, etc. Democratic Party politicians can take their pick. Survey their constituents and see which Trump policies are most popular. And work WITH him on a couple of those. The fraud and waste thing might be a good one. Dems could agree and amplify and turn the spotlight on the areas of Republican waste and fraud--the Pentagon, subsidies for oil and gas, etc etc. That would play better in Peoria than the Democratic position so far, which IS nuanced, but LOOKS to voters like an oppostion to ANY audits or spending cuts. |
That just means checked out at this point. I expect people to vote one way or another based on their wallet, not worry so much about belonging to one party or another |
Trump literally promised them nothing. And he has delivered Unfortunately the cult of personality only allows some of us to get away with this. The rest actually have to come up with policies |
You're absolutely right that more people will become Independents. But you're wrong that Democrats should just vote No or be absent. In a world with more independents, in a world we just saw in November when the electorate completely ignored everything the mainstream media said, people are going to vote for pragmatism over partisan politics. And the party that just voted no on everything won't have any pragmatic achievements to point to. You're also right that Republicans have done the "vote no on everything" routine before. But two wrongs don't make a right. Voters will not reward Democrats in 2028 for having been "principled placeholders," doing nothing but voting NO on everything the majority wants to do. |
We always say the same thing--the voters are stupid or in a cult. This is incorrect. Go to a flyover state and ask some independents and soccer moms what they want. They prefer Republican policies to Democratic ones. They didn't enjoy the millions of new illegal immigrants the Biden administration brought in. They didn't enjoy lifetime tenure for bureaucrats. They didn't enjoy white men being blackballed from corporate hiring or promotions due to DEI quotas. They didn't enjoy Democrats' endlessly promoting "trans folks." Of course WE think our policies are better, of course we know Trump is a liar. But it doesn't change the fact that a lot of things in our policy platform are unpopular with voters. As an example, take the men in girls' sports that our Democratic Senators just voted to CONTINUE. Obviously that's unpopular among mainstream Democrats. 90% of the country is against it. But our leaders insisted. Why? To oppose Trump, to appease trans folk, and because we believe its the right thing to do whether the voters like it or not. We believe that some of our commitments to oppressed minorities are too important to compromise on even when we KNOW they hurt us at the ballot box. Maybe that's good. But it IS unpopular, just on the numbers. The same thing is true with open borders. When we say "no human is illegal," the average American voter doesn't like it. When we say, "Sanctuary Cities," the average American voter doesn't like it. Maybe they are racist, maybe they are stupid, maybe they are in thrall to a cult-leader. But for whatever reason, more than half the voters DISAGREE with Democratic border and immigration policies. By definition, our border and immigration polices are unpopular. |
The voters consistently report trusting Republicans more with the economy than they trust Democrats. We've gotten awfully excited about the stock market backing down 10% off its highs. We're hoping that an economic downturn will make people wish they had voted for Kamala Harris. I would argue that's an unlikely outcome. That's not really how human psychology works. And hope is not a strategy. What are we going to DO, other than loudly wish for the American people to suffer a recession? (which is obviously not a great look. they know we want power, but do we have to be SO obvious about wanting Americans to suffer for daring to oppose us?) |
Voters in red areas are turning out in droves for Bernie. And I can assure you he's not talking about those things you listed. The average voter doesn't like immigration because they've been told that this is why they can't achieve the American dream. Not anything that corporate America is doing to defraud them Pointing at immigration is the biggest distraction from what is really keeping average Americans from having a good living for them and their families. The Rs conveniently leave out who some of their biggest backers are. And trans? GMAFB. None of that affects the average American. If you have a future for you and your family, you are worrying if so.e man is wearing a dress. |
People’s wallets are in free fall right now. The culture stuff won’t matter soon if this keeps up. |
* are not worrying is dome man is wearing a dress |
Notice how many people have resigned or refused to run for office again due to Trump. That’s the difference between character and craven self interest. Some people care more about the country than their own job. |
