Yes, the movie covers only Act I of the musical, even though it's as long as the whole musical. You have to wait a year to see Act II.

What a terrible idea.

It’s just such an obvious cash grab that it instantly turns me off from the film.

So movies shouldn't make money?

Did I say that? Why don’t you take that stick out of your ass. They do it so one movie makes twice as much money. It’s cynical and stupid and bloats the whole production.

It’s not done to make the best movie possible.

She has won a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy. This is her bid for an Oscar.

What's unusual is she won all three of those awards in less than a year, and they were all for her performance in the revival of The Color Purple musical.

Not going to see it. Can’t stand Arianna. How many relationships has she blown up. This one with Ethan is the worst.

God help anyone in my theater who sings along with it, though. I will be IN THEIR FACE making them shut up.

I don't like either of the women who are the main characters. Both have rubbed me the wrong way. Zero interest.

I can't get the song"Popular" sung by Kristin Chenoweth out of my head.

I don’t like Cynthia at all. She should stick to stage productions. I’m curious about Arianna in this because she got her start on Broadway.

I will just wait to hear what the non-paid critics say.

The NY Times gave Cynthia a rave review and called her the best thing about the movie.

Paid critic.

Actually, the review was not kind to the movie, the director, or the very concept -- only to the performances by the leads.

If you hate the actress for some reason, then don't go, but objectively her performance is fantastic and her singing is terrific. I like Idina Menzel but I have heard plenty of people sing better - and Cynthia Erivo is one of them.

Also strange that you think a stage performance somehow translates poorly to the big screen. Usually it's the other way around. I loathe celebrity casting in musicals usually, when they can't really sing. This is the opposite - casting people who actually could earn these roles on Broadway.

My son adored it so I'll see it today. I hear good things and am looking forward to it.

I'm not a fan of Ariana Grande's pop music but I think that she is well-suited for the role she is playing.

Race is never mentioned. She’s green.

is Gladiator worth seeing?

I liked Gladiator, but be prepared for gruesome violence as the name suggests.

Lol. So you value some rando whose expertise isn't compensated by a trusted publication. Got it.

She already has been nominated for an Oscar (Harriet). No doubt she’ll be nominated again for Wicked.
