Wicked

Given the title, this movie should be huge in Boston.

I LOOOOOVED it. I've seen it 3 times. The sets and costumes are gorgeous. The story was told well. The songs amazing.

Not a huge Grande fan but I thought she was really great in it. Love Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dilamond (sp?). And Goldblum as the wizard was fab, too.
But the two that did it for me were Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey.

CE was just mesmerizing. Her voice and acting were just perfection. It had me laughing, crying, rooting that she'd meet a different ending.

JB had me just gobsmacked. He's a gorgeous man on every level and seems to have so much charisma. He seems to just be fun, lively, funny. His press engagements with Jeff G. are so fun. I cannot wait to see more of him.

I totally agree with this assessment!

The set was incredible. Erivo was perfect and she and Grande together were magical. They brought a youthful energy to the parts and blended their tones gorgeously. I loved that they were actually singing and not just lip syncing to a track they recorded in the studio. And Jonathan Bailey, what a great performer. I will go dancing through life with him!

So your issue was only with the length?

That was probably my main issue. It also seemed to lack the emotion and magic of the musical.

Hardly anyone agrees with you. You have really odd opinions.

The exquisite sets, practical effects, and some exposition is part of what makes it worth making longer.

In the play the set changes but it’s minimalist from scene to scene, basically song to song, I don’t think there is much dialog outside of singing.

But spending time enjoying the amazing scenery like arrival by boat (they built that lake it’s not CGI). https://youtu.be/4Qp4tLTrX6A

Saw it yesterday, it was good but so long! How can than just be part 1? I saw the musical over a decade ago so don’t remember much but does the movie include a bunch of new songs? How can it be this bloated??

I was prepared to dislike it because of the running time and just how weird the cast acts sometimes but count me in as another who really liked it.

Same. I don’t like either of the leads, or the SpongeBob guy who cheated on his wife, or the length…but I admit I enjoyed it.

What is going on with Ariana Grande?

She used to have this 'bold, sexy, strutting her stuff' persona...and now every time I see her she looks like a scared child.

The vamp thing doesn’t play as well when you’re trying to make everyone forget you broke up a family

A scared starving child.

Such a fun movie but I'm surprised about the best picture and acting nominations. It's good, but not exactly deep or incredibly well written.

Loved it. My elementary aged son and I have been playing the soundtrack on repeat. Looking forward to seeing it on Broadway this spring.

I liked the book years ago too

It was deeper than I thought it would be.

Something can be the best without necessarily being deep, anyway.

Loved it, as did my 8 yo. Even my tween boy enjoyed it. I've never seen it live so can't compare, but it's just a beautifully done movie and we've been listening to the soundtrack non-stop. Am debating about buying the streaming version that just came out.

This was easily the most idiotic movie I’ve seen in years.
