They're going to turn MoCo into Baltimore, with absolutely stifling property taxes and hostile business policies they drive everyone away. Don't be surprised to wake up one day and find MoCo is like Baltimore where you're paying like $15k in property tax on a $500k home.

This is what I think too. Won’t stop until the whole state is impoverished.

I don't understand the posters who so vehemently despise the county and state they purportedly live in, and also despise the people the posters purportedly live in them with.

I like my state and county, but I’d like to see it succeed. I voted for most of these people, but locally I am only concerned with a couple of issues in 2026.

Attainable housing and crime, in that order, are the only things I’ll worry about. If they deregulate zoning, by right, county wide, I’ll do everything in my power to vote them out and to vote against them now and in the future, in perpetuity. I’ll fund whoever runs against any of them for dog catcher in 2044.

Likely by 2026, you will have more immediate concerns than whether or not your neighbor is allowed to replace their one-unit house with a two-unit house. Or maybe you'll be lucky, and you won't. Only time will tell.

I could say the same for the county council, but here we are.

They are electing a new President and Vice President.

https://moco360.media/2024/12/02/county-council-to-elect-new-president-vice-president/

“The council will elect its new president and vice president for the 2025 council legislative session. Council Vice President Kate Stewart (D-Dist. 4) is likely to be elected as the council’s president for 2025, as council tradition dictates that the current vice president follows as council president the following year.“

“… councilmembers Will Jawando (D-At-large), Laurie-Anne Sayles (D-At-large), Marilyn Balcombe (D-Dist. 2), Kristin Mink (D-Dist. 5), Natali Fani-González (D-Dist. 6) and Dawn Luedtke (D-Dist. 7) are the most likely to run for the seat.”

Good luck to you. If they pass the attainable housing plan it will be a nothingburger. Very few people will care about one or two duplexes or 4 story buildings in their neighborhood if developers even build that many.

Kate Stewart got the presidency and Jawando is the vice.

Pretty sure that is not the case. I think that a lot of people care, we’ve already seen it here. We’ve seen it elsewhere, like in Arlington, where they have reversed the initiative. The lawsuits will be great fun.

It is a weird new argument from these folks that actually, it is not a big deal. So if it is not a big deal, then why do we need to do it?

I think there is a lot of pent up sentiment in the county angry at the progressives on the MoCo council who have now rammed through upzoning that's going to bulldoze a lot of middle class neighborhoods. MCPS are failing badly due to way too much misguided focus on equity that's ruining all standards for quality and discipline enforcement. Car insurance is exploding in the area because there are a lot of undocumented individuals driving around with no insurance. Everyone is sick and tired of the county's force acceptance of crime due to the progressive council. The street racing and loud cars are out of control. Gang crime is out of control. The county is also not economically growing compared to our peers since there is so much hostile red tape.

How do we gut the council progressives out in the next elections? Who is in the wings we should rally around to bring back common sense law enforcement, tough standards for education, and who will be against all this upzoning garbage?

Want to get rid of progressives? Build more housing and bring in a more immigrant population.

Good news, then, because they are building a ton of it all over the county. Seems like every few days we see another announcement about an approval or a groundbreaking.

They are tying to normalize it, I suppose.
