Right?! Why didn’t she pick Shapiro and try to make a battle for PA? Did Shapiro not want it? Did the opposition research find stuff on him or Kelly? This is “meh” for me but maybe he’ll surprise us?

If she’s going to get PA, it will be on her own, she doesn’t need the state’s gov to carry the state. I like Shapiro a lot but his previous statements are a distraction in this current political environment. People have short memories though and who knows what the landscape will look like in ~10 years, when he’ll be 61 - a very normal age to run for pres. Plus I think he needs to stay as Gov longer - he’s only in his first term.

Given everything going on Israel right now, the dual loyalty thing could've totally splintered the Democrats and it will always haunt Shapiro given the IDF story. I say this as a Jew who knows the antisemitic tropes too well.

Also Shapiro is going to campaign hard for her in PA. There are lots of opportunities for a loyal dem who delivers Pa. He is 51 years old and his career is just starting. Let move on and win this thing.

Safe, solid pick. Great choice!

This was a savvy choice.

Exactly. I really wanted Kelly because he is a real man and example for my kids. But, apparently he was out of the running last week and I am sure there was a good reason.

Not to mention creating a constitutional crisis if he ever had to serve in her stead as Commander in Chief.

Gross antisemitism on display. Same comment would not be said about other groups.

He is so much better than Vance and she is so much better than trump. MAGAs are very unhappy and see the handwriting on the wall. It's not a cakewalk but trump is already having breakdowns and he will only get "worse and worser."

I will go on record here that this could easily be another Goldwater debacle for the GOP.

He is 60.

He looks like he’s 80 years old though. So I’m not sure this matters unfortunately.

He looks old enough to be a grownup but does not read as infirm or on the decline in the least. I think his age/look is an advantage. He looks reassuring. Plus he just seems like such a joyful mensch.

Agree, he has sweet quick-witted grandpa energy. Remember how much the kids loved Bernie!

Great point.

I think Kelly was a better choice. I like Walz but he's not exciting, and Americans are so superficial and want exciting.

His story might be less Buzz Lightyear and more Woody, but he’s far more personable and exciting on TV, which is how 99% of us are going to experience him.

He doesn't have the charisma, unfortunately. He also would pair her with another near West Coaster with no ties to the Midwest. He's great on paper but I don't think he could barnstorm and quip the way Walz will.

Wut. What does that even mean? Why do you sound so weird?

He’s the same age as Harris who’s being described as “young”

Both of them should have gotten a facelift before running for President or VP. Too late for that now, so another missed opportunity to gain an edge over the republicans.

Here’s one of those tightly puckered “moderates” I was talking about. Sad about being saddled with Trump and the couch lover?

You should take a look at the explosion of enthusiasm on Twitter before deciding Walz isn't exciting

I genuinely haven't seen this kind of excitement over a candidate in a long time - at least two weeks, anyway, when Harris stepped in! But before that, it's been a very long time since I've seen - or felt - this kind of excitement over a candidate.

I know it doesn't SEEM like it should work. But it's working.

I've said a thousand times: I won't breathe easy until Trump is done and defeated. But this pick gives ms quite a lot of hope. And joy.

My friend lives in Staples and he said he has a 3rd grader learning CRT.
He also saw a guy going in the Women's bathroom once when he was in Target. we are going to need to debate this to see what we want in our future.

Reform Jew here. Other groups don't volunteer for foreign military service and expect to be the leader of their domestic military. Do I agree that it's a constitutional crisis? No, not at all. And it wouldn't be an issue for most Jewish politicians. It will be an issue for Shapiro though. I'm so relieved he wasn't chosen.
