Great. Another old white guy. |
This is a terrible choice. Republicans will brand him as an extreme leftist that is practically communist who wants to destroy the suburbs and tax everyone to death. Many swing state voters see MN as a very left leaning state politically and this will reinforce the idea that Harris is too far left for America. |
He appeals to white suburban voters nationwide. That helps solidify the upper midwest. He won't "piss" anyone off and he is clever and well spoken. |
Tim Kaine was a great pick. It was the top of the ticket that was a problem and the hubris of a poorly run campaign combined with complacency, 8 years of a Democratic administration and something completely different with Trump as the "change candidate". Harris is the "change candidate" this time and exciting at the top of the ticket without the Clinton baggage. Trump is running his third consecutive Presidential campaign. It's old and tired. |
Except his policies have been both wildly popular and effective. The school breakfasts and lunches have made the Minnesota academic performaces near the top of the country. |
He is 60. |
I am voting for Kamala but let's be frank. A two-women ticket would be hard to win. He was born in 1964, same age as Kamala. That is not terribly old. At the very least, two 60 year olds is better than a geriatric. |
Reports last week said he spent lots of time in/with Illinois and Michigan. |
If she’s going to get PA, it will be on her own, she doesn’t need the state’s gov to carry the state. I like Shapiro a lot but his previous statements are a distraction in this current political environment. People have short memories though and who knows what the landscape will look like in ~10 years, when he’ll be 61 - a very normal age to run for pres. Plus I think he needs to stay as Gov longer - he’s only in his first term. |
If I was dithering on a harris/shapiro ticket, this is definitely a doubling down on the leftist drift of the party. No stopping it now. |
Republicans have tried to brand EVERY Democrat as an extreme leftist. That's nothing new. He's done nothing of the sort representing Minnesota in Congress or as Governor. |
The Mark Kelly poster from the other thread owes me 50 bucks! Fortunately I also bet no on Shapiro.
Very happy with this pick, seems like a lovely guy ordinary Americans will listen to and respect. |
Not even slightly. FWIW I still don’t think this ticket will win with Harris at the top (mostly because of America more than Harris), but of the names floated, Walz is my personal “would have a beer with him” choice, and having him on the campaign trail and in the soundbites will make the next 90 days more tolerable at least. We’ll see if he helps her at the polls in November I guess. |
I agree with this. Not his moment and he has plenty of time. |
They brand everyone an extreme leftist. |
