Political Discussion
This is what gets me about "antisemitism". You know there is something deeply wrong in the ultra orthodox, extremist community. And yet you cannot condemn it because to point out any wrong doing by people of the Jewish faith is "antisemitic". But I have no doubt that you could give me a laundry list of all of the evil deeds committed by the Taliban without thinking twice about Islamophobia. The truth is that religious extremism is a hot bed for criminal activity. This has been true for centuries and across all faiths. And the communities in E Ramapo got away with everything that they did for years precisely becuase people were to scared to speak up for fear of PPs like above labeling them as antisemitic. Luckily, I think that era has officially come to a close. You can say whatever the hell you want. It doesn't change the disgusting criminal nature of many of these religious extremists. |
Just because you disagree with their views on education doesn’t mean it’s OK for a government official to openly encourage discrimination against them. You’re so entrenched in your disgust that you fail to see that this type of reflexive disgust against a minority group is exactly why we need anti-discrimination laws. We KNOW you hate Hasidic people and are disgusted by them congregating, taking political power, and changing how your community looks. That type of disgust is why anti-discrimination laws exist. |
Again - this is about a mayor being caught red-handed saying not to hire or sell houses to Jews. |
Where did I give my opinion on Hasidic communities? Nowhere. Because it’s irrelevant. No matter how much I disapprove of their beliefs I cannot say the government should bar them from buying homes or getting jobs in my community. |
They illegally stripped low income black and brown children of their right to education. They took away their schooling, eliminated curriculum and the arts. They usurped public buildings and spaces for themselves and siphoned public funds. That is illegal activity. Cry discrimination all you want. There is a clear reason why there is so much blowback. The Hasidim are no different than the Taliban. But I'm willing to bet that you would not be on this board crying about anti-discrimination laws when we called for the Taliban to be removed from school boards. Your hypocrisy is too much. |
You don’t understand what these people are and what they do if you defend them. They really are as bad as the Taliban. |
The end result is that this sect will be running things with an emphasis on private schooling and destroying the public schools(source: this thread). You say this should not be countered because it would be discrimination. You must accept what other people want and not push for what you want. |
“they” “they” “they”. so for supposed crimes (that you listened to a 10 year old podcast about) in a different state, all Hasidic people should be barred from public employment in Linden, NJ? |
You can “counter” it in the way citizens counter anything in a democracy - through elections, participation, organizing. Not through unlawful discrimination based on the belief that an individual is inherently bad due to their religious affiliation. |
Absolutely. I would be glad to see Hasidic removed from any public positions of power - or have that employment conditioned on their ability to protect and serve the general public and not be utilized as a mechanism to enforce religious restrictions or discriminatory practices on the public at large. And no, it is not based on one podcast. There are countless reports of the failing Hasidic schools, abuse of food stamps and public funds, takeover of low income housing communities, and the like. I highly doubt that you are ignorant of any of these. So good for NJ. |
The Taliban that regularly murders people? |
This is going to result in a massive DOJ lawsuit and settlement for Linden. So good job, I guess. |
Let me know when the ultra orthodox blow something up. |
(I mean a settlement that Linden has to pay - similar to many such settlements.) |
| I wonder if the people her who have such disdain for the Hasidic Jews feel the same way about the Amish. The Amish send their kids to religious private school and they only get schooled up until 8th grade. The state allows this because they consider working vocational training. If you were to give an Amish child a standardized test they’d probably fail it and their first language is also not English. In places with large Amish populations the school district suffers a lack of sufficient public school funding because they don’t have enough students attending to reasonably support the school. |
