Pass the Laken Riley Act

the "Sense of Congress" faults the Biden administration for having allowed him to be released in Georgia--a Republican state--after a minor shoplifting charge--not something the federal government has jurisdiction over.
After reading the provisions of the bill itself, I have doubts about it even being implemented effectively.
It's a bad bill.

The killer, José Antonio Ibarra, had a bench warrant for shoplifting that he failed to appear for. "Minor"? are you special pleader for him?

He entered the United States illegally also. BTW, he was arrested in August of last year for endangering the welfare of a child. Why was he here and why was he out walking around free?

Balogna. I don't believe this garbage.

One-hundred seventy Democrats voted against the bill. The ranking Democratic member on the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York, criticized the legislation on the floor, accusing Republicans of “exploiting her death for a partisan stunt” and “throwing together legislation to target immigrants in an election year.”

Laken and her family mean nothing to democrats.

Well, the families of Sandy Hook, Parkland, and Uvalde might be available to talk about how the murder of their children has meant nothing to the GOP.

The people who killed the children at those schools were legally in the United States. They were born here. How was the GOP supposed to deport people born in America before they committed crimes?

Please explain what authority the GOP would arrest these 3 people with, who the GOP would send to take these people into custody pre-shooting, where the GOP jail is located, and where the GOP would deport 3 American citizens to?

dp.. really? Are you that dense?

+1 He and his two brothers should never have been allowed to live in those apartments so close to university students. Laken paid a huge price and yet we're supposed to be offended by the use of the term "illegal immigrants." If they come here illegally, that term is appropriate.

Laken Riley murder case: Athens DA bringing in special prosecutor after criticism from lawyers

"Epps is not alone in his criticism. On social media, state representative Houston Gains, a Republican from Athens, is calling Gonzalez to pursue the death penalty in the case.

But according to a memo she published on her first day in office, Gonzalez promised that she would not seek the death penalty while prosecuting cases."

NP. I notice you didn’t answer the questions. This bill is about detaining people in order to prevent future crime. You can’t detain a US citizen in this way nor can you deport them.

+1 exactly

So hard to keep to the topic at hand, right? This is not a bill about gun control.

Jose Ibarra, 26, is accused of using a mystery object as a weapon to kill the 22-year-old Augusta University student. It's unclear if authorities have retrieved the object used as the murder weapon.

Rest peacefully, Laken. I am sorry you were not protected by the people who are in charge of country.

what happened to her of course was awful, unbelievable heartache for the family, but "the people in charge", whether R or D, fail Americans everyday. More people die of gun deaths by the hands of real Americans everyday than by illegal immigrants. Why are you not upset about that?

You don't seem to care when children die by gun violence. Your only response is "thoughts and prayers", which is meaningless.

I'd believe your "sorry" more if you hated the gun violence and easy access to guns in this country as much as you hate illegal immigrants.

The illegals who murder our citizens shouldn't be in the US to begin with.
THAT, my dear, is the point.

It's almost as if you are all for importing more murderers and rapists to the US.

So let me get this straight.

The GOP had a bipartisan immigration form bill all lined up, including provisions to address this very issue, but they tanked THEIR OWN BILL so Trump could have a campaign issue to whine about. Then they come up with this clap-trap and DEMAND that Biden do something about it?

I feel bad for the family. They lost their daughter and now they're being used as political fodder by the shameless GOP.

This killer was admitted by the Biden administration.
Face it. He has had a crisis for 3 years that he and his cronies have denied.
He created the crisis beginning with Day 1 of his presidency. And, could end it with a stroke of a pen.
But, he won't because doing so would be evidence that he could have taken action all along.

Trump gave amnesty to Venezuelans on his way out the door. And...he know the border was an issue during his presidency and wanted a border bill passed then.

He absolutely DID NOT GIVE AMNESTY TO ANYONE.

You clearly have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

.Amnesty? No, but he did block deportations of Venezuelans for 18 months on his way out the door
