You are teaching your daughter to be a greedy mean girl who won't befriend poor people. Honestly it will probably work out well for her, at the expense of her soul. |
OP says she is a first generation. Doesn't that mean she was born here too? |
They made a ridiculous comparison, and now they’re going to die on that hill. |
You could wear your exercise sneakers to work and to a wedding. Unless you want to fit in I suppose... |
It's just not. You make purchasing decisions every single day to fit in. You're a liar if you say you don't. You're just drawing the line at a Stanley Cup. |
My office has a dress code. I don’t wear sneakers because I don’t want to get fired, not because I’m a vain lemming. |
Never been a problem. Kids take a sip and move on. Many take no sips at all. All 100 kids are not trying to all use the fountain in the same 4 min passing time. Did you never attend school? None of us carried water bottles daily. We all used the water fountain intermittently, which was maybe once per day, or not even daily. |
That's actually a market. You can find sneakers that look like dress shoes. |
|
You 100% are sending her the wrong message if you give in. Call her bluff. “Fine. Don’t drink water during the day. I’m not getting you a Stanley”. End of discussion. There is ZERO chance she will go all day without drinking. Don’t be a pushover.
I admit my kids have them but they asked for them not demanded. They know demanding gets them squat. |
Please tell us more about your school experience decades ago. |
| Teaching moment you must not miss |
| She sounds bratty. Like most kids in this area. Shocks me how few kids say please and thank you. Few kids are being raised right. It’s sad. |
Sorry you don’t understand how drinking fountains work. |
Of course I attended school. In a different part of the country with a different climate. At least at my kid's school here in the DMV area, they crank up the heat very high in the winter and the air gets dry. Students should have water accessible throughout the day. |
The thing is getting the cup would help her fit in. Then she would want to know what’s wrong with her because she has the right cup, clothes etc., and still doesn’t fit in. |
