I think it will more selective this year. Lots of acceptances in that range over the last few years.

It will never get too hard to get into without an engineering school though.

VT has one a well more than half of applicants get in there.

VT acceptance rate is 57% - lower for engineering.

Congrats to all that got in. Just remember, housing choice is dependent on when you make your deposit. For reference, I made my dd’s deposit in mid-February last year and she got exactly what she wanted. They had triples this year to start due to the large class. Very pleased thus far.

Is the mymadison website down? DC keeps getting a system error message, won't let them login.

Go look at the rate for in state white males on VT’s website and many majors are around 35 percent or less. It not just engineering

It gets worse if you eliminate the Onsite Admissions cohort. Engineering hovers around 20%.

In-state, non-preferred demographics (i.e. White, Asian, etc.) get royally screwed with VT admissions. The only school where OOS admit rate is better than in-state! Shameful..

DP. Look, I'm sorry your kid didn't get in, but PLENTY of white and Asians students are admitted, every single year.

Congrats, OP!! These seem like strong, high stats to me. JMU has an 86% acceptance rate…am I missing something? Not from the DCVM area. Is it much harder to get in now?

Yes, it is much harder to get in now.

Schools get "hot" real quick nowadays. With the Gameday event and basketball winning we were very afraid this could be JMU's year.

I remember JMU being very hot 30 years ago when I was applying.

Same - I remember Virginia Tech being a safety for JMU, which at the time had an acceptance rate around 35% (early 90s). Kids who did not get into UVA or William & Mary, went to JMU; and if they didn't get into JMU, then Virginia Tech.

Tell me you’re a 90s kid! This was the set up when I graduated from HS in Va too!

when do the kids do them if they have more than one EC?
Weekends only?
Ds has one but its too much going every evening for even just one.

Mine has one EC and it’s like 5-6 times a week , 4-5 hours daily . No room for anything!

if you are not looking top 1-40 ish EC’s do not matter much.

Not true. My child goes to T10 and school likes to see involvement in community.

In the 90’s I did not get into JMU went to LSU. Brother did not get into JMU went to VT. Sister did not get into JMU and went to UTK. Very excited for DS acceptance today. Fit was the most important thing. Toured all the schools above plus W&M Penn State and Alabama. He can accomplish his goals and not be too far away from home and DC.

Like I said it may matter for top 40 after that not much of that BS that is routinely faked matters Too many applications and not enough staff.
