College and University Discussion
| I think a lot of schools with the common app have high acceptance rates because it's so easy to apply. |
OR kids got into UVA and (gasp!) chose JMU— myself and two friends included — because it was a great place. There are lots of factors at play for some kids that may not like adults on here obsessed with rankings. Congrats to the new Dukes! |
30 years ago, I was admitted to William & Mary, UVA, Virginia Tech, and Duke, but was rejected from JMU. That was a blow to my ego at the time! |
seems to still sting |
| When does honors college let the kids know? |
Also was new to the Common App last year which also tends to inflate admissions. |
| Curious. Is it harder to get accepted to JMU if applying for business than arts & sciences. DD’s friend was flat out rejected, which surprised me, I thought he would have at least been deferred. I’m wondering if it could be because he applied for business. |
NP. Not sure I understand your question. This was his first choice and he got in, so the OP is sharing the news and celebrating. CONGRATS, OP!! |
DP. We love Blacksburg, as does our DC who goes to VT. Classic small college town surrounded by mountains. Different strokes and all that. |
| Congrats to all admitted. Well done! |
+1 Well put. |
|
Deferred. 3.6 gpa. 1400 sat. Lots of ECs.
I think it will more selective this year. Lots of acceptances in that range over the last few years. It will never get too hard to get into without an engineering school though. |
Nice dismissive post. Also the majority of applicants get into ALL va state schools except W&M and UVA |
|
I have a theory that the "JMU is so easy to get into" poster is really a disgruntled parent whose kid got denied 4 years ago, and now they keep trolling these JMU threads.
Congrats to all admitted students! My son accepted his offer at 3:30 this afternoon! |
VT has one a well more than half of applicants get in there. |
