Congratulations to all the admitted students! We have a very happy junior Duke (nursing) and know many others.
Best of luck to your students in making their college decisions. Wishing them all well as they get ready for their next exciting chapters.

No. JMU admits the student to the college (with the exception of a few majors. Business is not one of them). During orientation (or right before) the student gets to say what major they'd be targeting. So, I don't think the applicant indicating Business as their intended major should have an impact on admissions.

Does anyone get rejected at JMU EA? Or is it just defer?

Congrats, OP!! These seem like strong, high stats to me. JMU has an 86% acceptance rate…am I missing something? Not from the DCVM area. Is it much harder to get in now?

Yes, it is much harder to get in now.

Schools get "hot" real quick nowadays. With the Gameday event and basketball winning we were very afraid this could be JMU's year.

I remember JMU being very hot 30 years ago when I was applying.

Same - I remember Virginia Tech being a safety for JMU, which at the time had an acceptance rate around 35% (early 90s). Kids who did not get into UVA or William & Mary, went to JMU; and if they didn't get into JMU, then Virginia Tech.

30 years ago, I was admitted to William & Mary, UVA, Virginia Tech, and Duke, but was rejected from JMU. That was a blow to my ego at the time!

seems to still sting

No, it doesn't still sting. It has been 30 years. I don't even think about college very often, other than when my DC ask about it or now, when my DD is looking at her own acceptances.
I only brought it up because of the discussion regarding acceptance to various VA schools, JMU included.

A couple of students posted on Reddit yesterday that they were rejected from JMU yesterday. Others posted there and on College Confidential that they were deferred.

Congrats to all admitted students! My son accepted his offer at 3:30 this afternoon!

Nope. Guess again. I had three kids apply to UVA, W&M, Tech, JMU and VCU. All three got into Tech, JMU and VCU. All three got into UVA. Two of the three got into W&M; the third was waitlisted. In the end, two ended up at UVA and the third went out of state.

JMU is a good school and I would have been happy had any of my kids attended. We know lots and lots of happy kids who went there. So, no, I am not a disgruntled parent of a JMU reject. Sorry. My only purpose in posting is to assure parents that the chance is very high that your kid will be admitted.

We come from a big FCPS high school that has many, many students apply to JMU. Lots of talk amongst the seniors yesterday and today. My kid knows approximately equal numbers of students who were accepted, deferred, and denied. He didn't hear of anyone waitlisted.

JMU's College of Arts & Letters has 3200+ students and the business school has about 5300.

JMU published that they had a record number of early action applicants this year and that they deferred 25% of them to regular decision. I saw a post from an applicant with a 3.4 GPA who was rejected yesterday; this person had applied test optional (didn't send scores). A parent posted yesterday that her daughter was deferred; the daughter has a 3.5 and also didn't submit test scores. Yesterday another applicant with a 4.0 was deferred to regular decision. That student didn't mention if they submitted test scores.

Did your DD's friend submit test scores?

Of course they do. What a silly question. Two of my DD's friends were outright rejected last year. And these were kids with good grades, leadership, etc.
