| Bump since the last set of episodes is out! |
| I don’t think they are doing a young Harry justice in these episodes. They should have stuck with the younger Harry in the year after Diana’s death and then moved on to a slightly older Harry. The actor is 23 years old! I though he was supposed to be one of William’s school friends at first. |
Didn't Princess Diana refused police protection and royal personal protection officers? She was the mother of the future king and third in line to throne. She would have received protection had she not been so paranoid that she believed them leak information about her whereabouts to Prince Charles or that they might be sabotoging her car. |

Meh! That’s the only word I can use to describe these last final episodes. We know that the Queen never abdicated so why focus the series finale on such an artificial dilemma? That period of time, 2002-2005 ish is one where nothing really interesting happens both in the royal family and the UK as a whole so that seems an odd place for the producers to choose to end the series on. A little earlier was 9/11 and 20 years later was COVID, the whole Harry debacle, and the death of Phillip and the Queen herself which would have been much more fertile ground for a final season. |
too soon for that |

I did enjoy the William/Charles/Phillip relationship shown in the first ( 6th) episode. William subconsciously blaming Charles for his mother’s death through the divorce and eventual Dodi/ Paris/ no royal security situation was totally realistic and good drama.
Phillip was able to be both a detached observer and older role model to Will to tell him what he needed to know. |
| I agree, their stopping point didn’t make sense. They added too much unbelievable stuff that made me question the earlier seasons. I never thought it was all nonfiction but it felt way more embellished. |
That scene with “I’m not the one with the image problem” was great. |
| The episode where Princess Margaret dies was excellent. I cried. |
Same. I actually loved these final episodes, especially the way it ended. The whole thing was moving, and I appreciated the way they focused it all back on Elizabeth’s reign in a way that conveyed the weight and longevity of the monarchy. In that way, I disagree with the PP about where they chose to end the series. It showed precisely how the monarchy is bigger and more lasting than any set of individuals or events. |

Overall, I liked it. What I didn’t like was how self-indulgent it was at a few points.
Namely, when the maid sits down all poignant to sing “Sleep, Dearie, Sleep.” I get that the point was so that the viewer could hear the beautiful words of the song. BUT how much more subtle and effective it would have been if the maid had simply started singing softly as she kept working, instead of dramatically sitting down and Having a Moment. It was too self-indulgent at that moment. It could have so easily been less ham-fisted. |
I agree. That episode is outstanding. In these last 6 episodes, I also enjoyed the opportunity to see Imelda Staunton do her thing. I wasn’t really familiar with her work (unlike DD, who knew her from Harry Potter). I thought that she was kind of stodgy and a stick-in-the-mud last season and in the first 4 episodes of this season, but here she started to shine in a lot of ways. And even though maybe it was a gimmicky device, I liked the interactions with the various younger iterations of the queen. When you have invested in a series this long, that is a nice pay-off, to say good-bye. I did think the William and Kate stuff was kind of boring. |
| I loved the casting of Carole Middleton. There was a certain hardness about her that captured my own impression of what she’s like. |
Yes! She practically stole the show! |
|
The Wills, Kate, and Harry stuff was dull as hell.
Margaret’s final episode made me cry. She was my favorite character throughout the series, and I thought this was a great episode. Overall, season 6 is better than season 5 (and maybe season 4, which I can’t really remember). Seasons 1 and 2 (snd maybe 3) were damn good. The later seasons just can’t compare. |
