The Crown S6 was released yesterday (the first half).
I am almost done with the last available episode, E4. Anyone else have thoughts? I’m not ready to share all of mine. (Can I share my one Crown peeve though? Giving multiple characters a bad posture that didn’t exist as badly. Sure, Charles maybe. But Dodi? And definitely not William.) |
| Much of episode 4 can be compared to the movie The Queen. I guess it’s time for a re-watch of that movie. |

Interesting article from VF re: what is real and imagined. Their fling really was just a quick whirlwind. |
| Haven’t seen it yet but initial reviews are not good…. I guess the run had to come to an end at some point. |
WaPo seemed to think it was okay. |
Very bleak reviews. |
| The reviews are stupid. I loved it and watched it in one sitting. |
| Reviews don’t really matter for shows past their second season — especially something this high profile in its last season. |
| It wasnt great. I wonder if Diana was as annoying in real life. |
Honestly I bet she was. She didn’t deserve her fate, but yeah, I bet she was a lot.

It seems to me that the bad reviews are all in British media, while the American press is more favorable. Interesting. |
I wonder if Dodi was as weak in real life. |
| I thought it was kind of boring, but I have admittedly overconsumed this story in every possible media form, so there wasn't really a lot "new" for me here. I also can't stand Diana as they're portraying her (but they do have me liking Charles). |

I saw a review that said it was so bad it was like an outer body experience.
No thanks. I thought season 5 was a bore. |

We've only watched one episode so far, but I enjoyed it. I think Dubecki's Diana is really good -- it doesn't feel like an impression at all and yet I sometimes forget she's not actually Diana. At least in the first episode, I haven't found her annoying -- the stuff with Dodi has been pretty charming.
DH feels this season is boring compared to early seasons when it felt like the stakes were higher. And while I agree that the first couple seasons and the focus on Elizabeth becoming queen did feel more weighty, plus I think the cast was more evenly great whereas this cast less so (I just do not buy Dominic West as Charles and while Imelda Staunton is believable, her scenes are dull -- not sure if this is her or the writing), I find the dynamics at play really fascinating. I loved the movie The Queen so I view it through that lens, and find the personal dramas intriguing. The tension between Charles and the Queen that is inherent to their relationship, and also the family's inability to know what to do with Diana -- she's like a spell they cast and can't undo. We'll see if my good opinion holds up over the next three episodes. |
