Anyone else hate soda but a Diet Coke hits the spot every once in a while?

I buy the smaller can 12 pack of diet pepsi and have one over a lot of ice if my husband is having a drink since i don't drink much anymore so 1 or 2 cans a week.

I don't think coke is particularly affluent - getting a chuckle out of the posters thinking diet coke is a class signifier

I have some strong feelings about the likelihood that these sweeteners will end up being linked to the rise of bowel cancer in young people, as well as likely the PFAS in our water and food chain.

I think processed foods and PFAS are way more likely the culprit of bowel/colon cancer in young people than aspartame. Younger people aren’t the main market of diet drinks/colas.

+1 I can’t stand anything with aspartame/splenda/stevia whatever.

Guess you have never tried A&W Zero Rootbeer.

Yes, and it tastes awful. It contains aspartame.

That's the only diet/sugar free soda that doesn't taste like aspartame. The only one I've tried them all. Orange soda it the worst a&w the best!!!

"Aspartame, a common sweetener in diet sodas, may be carcinogenic, a WHO agency says"

Wait! So sugar free citrucel that I drink DAILY for decades to stay regular and healthy, that my doctor TOLD ME TO TAKE has aspartame and it's a carcinogenic???? What kind of cancer are they saying it causes??!!!

Here are the ingredients:
Active ingredient Citrucel Sugar Free Methylcellulose (a non-allergenic fiber) 2g
Inactive ingredients (WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?) aspartame, dibasic calcium phosphate, FD&C yellow #6 lake, malic acid, maltodextrin, orange flavors (natural and artificial), potassium citrate, riboflavin
each rounded tablespoon contains: calcium 80 mg and potassium 115 mg
each rounded tablespoon contributes 24 calories from maltodextrin
Phenylketonurics: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE 52mg per adult dose

One of the other WHO agencies clapped back and said it was ok.

If you find the act of drinking a Diet Coke enjoyable, then "tastes like something enjoyable."

You are being weird about this. There's nothing wrong with enjoying soda. There are health reasons someone might choose not to drink it, or to limit how much they drink, but it's a sweet, fizzy beverage that was scientifically formulated to be enjoyable. You enjoy it. You're just like everyone else!

Yeah, this. OP, why are you trying to be "I'm not like other girls" over soda? It's weird.

Pretty much any thread beginning "Am I the only one who" or "Anyone else" is going to be followed by some unsuccessful effort to claim sophistication.

Also, who are all these people using the phrase "hit the spot"? Are we in some sort of time warp? Gee willikers.

Hits the spot. You know, satisfying.

I know what it means. I had a grandfather. But who still uses that phrase? (Tip: in the phrase, "hit" is a verb, and thus can be either "hit" or "hits," depending on the subject)

No one posting here was listening to that ad from 84 years ago. The saying is still in circulation.

I rarely drink alcohol and never smoke, but I love soda of all kinds - diet and regular. I’ve recently started drinking flavored sparking water like Polar to cut down on my soda consumption but it’s not the same.

I get a Cherry Coke Zero when I see a movie in the theatre (rare) and occasionally order a diet soda when we order a pizza. I really only like it with pizza and popcorn and never think about it otherwise.

Yuck to soda. Yuck to artificial sweeteners. I will drink a Bubly before a Diet Coke.

For what it’s worth, my neurologist told me when I was in my teens to avoid any diet products because of the effects they could cause. They can be a migraine trigger.

The WHO seems influenced by invested parties in this one.
