That's different from "I hate soda." You like soda, you just don't drink it very often. People use soda as a class signifier. That's what is actually happening here. You don't think of yourself as the type of person who drinks soda (poor, uneducated, unhealthy) so you claim to hate it, but actually you like it. And that's why you crave it occasionally and then drink it and enjoy drinking it. |
Yes, and it tastes awful. It contains aspartame. |
| Enjoy a DC with spaghetti. That’s it. |
| Only in a can, and frigid. Yesssss. I try not to drink it in front of the kids. |
No you didn't! It doesn't taste like it at all thats how I know you never tried one! |
| Yes OP, I am the same way. |
Sorry to disappoint, but I did. Clearly you like the taste of aspartame. I don’t. |
| Sorry to burst your bubble, but you don't hate soda 😂😂 |
| Now that Coke Zero exists, I can’t understand why anyone would drink Diet Coke. It must taste different to different people. It’s really disappointing when restaurants have DC, but not CZ. |
| Yes! I normally only drink coffee in the morning, wine every few nights, and otherwise just water (still and sparkling). However, I do occasionally enjoy a Diet Coke! |
Right? Such a strange post. |

My only pregnancy craving was a fountain coke. Not a can, not a bottle, only a coke from the fountain like at a fast food restaurant or a 7-11.
It was one of the few things that would settle my stomach after throwing up from morning sickness. |
As for as class signifier, Diet Coke is probably on the upper echelon, with it seems mostly affluent people drinking it? My doctor drinks it, it seemed like all of my professors in college drank it, my super wealthy boss drinks it, my husband's lawyer buddies drink it. It's not embarrassing to drink it or be seen drinking it, I truly just enjoy it every once in a while. I think it would get gross drinking it every day. |

Count me in. Just last week I had a craving for a Burger King Whopper and a Diet Coke. It happens maybe once every year or two.
DH was with me - two whoppers and a soda added up to over $18. |
I'm not sure if I've ever seen a solo can of Coke Zero for sale. Plastic containers of Diet Coke don't do it for me, so neither would Coke Zero in plastic. Has to be an ice cold can, ideally -or- from a fountain in a clean restaurant with nice glassware. Plastic fast food cups and hard plastic restaurant or bar cups ruin the Diet Coke vibes. |
