Anyone else hate soda but a Diet Coke hits the spot every once in a while?

Maybe once every two weeks to maybe even once a month (I don't know, I don't keep track) I get an urge for a Diet Coke. They don't even really taste like anything enjoyable. I just like it and I can't explain why. And I prefer it from a can or on tap from a restaurant - not from a plastic bottle. We don't keep it stocked at home, so the urges are super random.

I don't really drink anything else fizzy and drink mostly water throughout a usual day.

There's this old timey general store near where my daughter plays soccer sometimes and they stock 12oz Diet Coke cans and charge an even $1. Somehow that super cold can of Diet Coke is super refreshing after being in the sun watching her play.

Not diet coke, but yes to real Coke

If you get a craving for a Diet Coke regularly, you don't hate soda.

If you find the act of drinking a Diet Coke enjoyable, then "tastes like something enjoyable."

You are being weird about this. There's nothing wrong with enjoying soda. There are health reasons someone might choose not to drink it, or to limit how much they drink, but it's a sweet, fizzy beverage that was scientifically formulated to be enjoyable. You enjoy it. You're just like everyone else!

A few times a year I’ll have a Coke - original recipe with sugar, not corn syrup.

I’ve never been a fan of diet soda. Apparently I have the funny taste buds where artificial sweetener is sickening to the point of nausea.

Mostly I really love and crave unsweetened blueberry green tea.

I don't drink soda regularly but I sometimes like a coke zero - coke zero cherry if I can find it. Maybe 1-2x/month.

UMC people drink soda so rarely now, it feels jarring when I see someone drinking a regular coke. It's like seeing someone smoke a cigarette.

I have always thought Diet Coke was disgusting. I don't mind the occasional soda, but if I'm going to drink chemicals, it's gonna be a regular Coke or maybe a root beer.

About once every year or two--Vanilla Coke.

+1 I can’t stand anything with aspartame/splenda/stevia whatever.

I don't dislike soda, but don't drink it regularly. But Diet Coke just hits the spot for me sometimes. And I swear it kills my oncoming migraines every time.

Guess you have never tried A&W Zero Rootbeer.

Yes! I drank it in my 20s when I worked in a place with a VERY well stocked staff lounge and everyone was drinking it. I quit when I got pregnant because I always knew it was evil. I looked forward to the post pregnancy diet coke but it tasted awful. Still, once in a random rare while, it's a guilty pleasure, maybe twice a year.

I swear it’s an elixir! Again, very rare I buy it. Maybe 10 or 12 all summer. But it’s so soothing. Probably how men feel when they drink an ice cold beer after golf or something. lol

I don’t enjoy it enough to buy a case and stock it at home.
