Anyone else hate soda but a Diet Coke hits the spot every once in a while?

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a solo can of Coke Zero for sale. Plastic containers of Diet Coke don't do it for me, so neither would Coke Zero in plastic. Has to be an ice cold can, ideally -or- from a fountain in a clean restaurant with nice glassware. Plastic fast food cups and hard plastic restaurant or bar cups ruin the Diet Coke vibes.

Deli/Bodega shops frequently have Coke Zero. Probably because they are buying by the case and stocking their coolers. Otherwise I agree, it’s usually just bottles in 7-11s.

Once in a while, regular Coke just hits the spot.

If you find the act of drinking a Diet Coke enjoyable, then "tastes like something enjoyable."

You are being weird about this. There's nothing wrong with enjoying soda. There are health reasons someone might choose not to drink it, or to limit how much they drink, but it's a sweet, fizzy beverage that was scientifically formulated to be enjoyable. You enjoy it. You're just like everyone else!

I don’t enjoy it enough to buy a case and stock it at home.

That's different from "I hate soda." You like soda, you just don't drink it very often.

People use soda as a class signifier. That's what is actually happening here. You don't think of yourself as the type of person who drinks soda (poor, uneducated, unhealthy) so you claim to hate it, but actually you like it. And that's why you crave it occasionally and then drink it and enjoy drinking it.

As for as class signifier, Diet Coke is probably on the upper echelon, with it seems mostly affluent people drinking it? My doctor drinks it, it seemed like all of my professors in college drank it, my super wealthy boss drinks it, my husband's lawyer buddies drink it. It's not embarrassing to drink it or be seen drinking it, I truly just enjoy it every once in a while. I think it would get gross drinking it every day.

Trump drinks Diet Coke and he’s as trashy as you can get.

NO to coke, but absolutely love black cherry soda and once in a while I'll find one in a convenience store in a bottle and boy do I enjoy that!!

Used to be addicted to Diet Coke. Kept one by my bedside to wake up in the morning. I don’t drink now and don’t crave. Haven’t for about 15 years.

McDonald’s Diet Coke — but only on a medium cup. The gigantic large cups make it gross for some reason. I think the medium cup might be paper?

Yes, I have one every day after work. Ice cold, from a can only, tall glass packed with ice and a slice of lemon. It's my happy hour. I rarely touch alcohol.

Never liked soda from plastic containers.

Diet Coke is a great to cut through a greasy meal; burgers, pizza, Mexican food. Pretty much the only time I drink it.

Mexican coke in a glass bottle yes. Diet anything, nope! Fake sugar tastes awful.

I have a Diet Coke at least once a week. I prefer it to an afternoon coffee.
