SF is a complete disaster. Human excrement everywhere. I worked downtown there for years. Just revolting.

There are condos and such, but it’s not an area with a lot of nightlife and there’s more industrial areas right around it.

My DD lives and works in Rincon. The are has businesses and highrises. It was a very safe white neighborhood until about 2 years ago when SF decided to set up a sort of homeless sanctioned encampment. People had bought condos for over $1M right before the city set up the tented encampment. Now, and especially with this murder, no one can sell.

Interesting. It sounds very similar to NoMa in DC - tons of new development but still sketchy.

Much safer area than NOMA. Financial center is closeby.

I think the people online defending the state of SF don't actually go there or haven't been there recently. Even Mayor Breed will openly say the state of SF is unacceptable.

From my understanding he was on good terms with his ex wife. I know it’s fun to speculate but she is a very kind, very sweet person. I am 100% certain she had nothing to do with this.

Bob was a complete night owl. I know back in his coding days, he’d do those crazy hackathons all night. He had no problem staying up late. It is absolutely no surprise to me he was out at 2:30 am. He was probably working late or catching up with a friend at a local bar.

I so wish I could go back in time and tell him to stay in. We are all scratching our heads. I think he must have come across a mentally ill person or just someone who wanted to murder another human being. Bob wasn’t stupid, if he had been mugged he would’ve handed over everything. And he kept good company. He didn’t have enemies. It’s really senseless.
As others have said, I am so sorry for your loss and can't stop thinking about this man's family left behind.

My condolences as well, first PP. What a sad loss.

What is so heartbreaking is that he knew he was hurt, tried to get help, and was refused.

People cN be so cruel.

+1 people acting like this happen in broad daylight, are nuts! Who walks by themselves in the middle of the night?

People, can we stop bashing him for being out at 2 am? Unless you are a basement troll dweller, I am each and everyone has taken risks and gotten away with it, and not thought twice.

To Friend of Bob upthread, I am very sorry for your loss. This must be utterly shocking and devestating.

My son lives in SF and there are areas where he will not stop for a red light ( Tenderloin).

But that the violent crime rate is still below many other cities, she cited Houston as having a much higher rate. She then talked about the Mayor, London Breed, who is “fed up” and trying to do something about it.

Drug stores also closed down and are closing in San Francisco because the theft was extreme. The merchandise from entire counters in the
drug stores is emptied. Prosecutors do nothing to the culprits.

Much of items sold on Amazon is previously stolen from legitimate companies.

Would you let your teenage daughter walk alone at 2:45 in the morning in a large city?

He approached a car with someone in it, they drove away.

Yeah, because it was two in the morning, and they probably thought he was a wacko trying to murder them!

I wrote earlier about my DD living in Rincon where Bob Lee was killed. Rincon is a white neighborhood. Tenderloin is the worst neighborhood in SF. Homeless people are openly shooting up throughout the day.
