Seriously, this country is so soft it will be the end of it. Friggin crazy the county won’t investigate residency fraud - let’s face it from a lot of undocumented. Truly bleeding hearts are trashing a once great public school system.

Huh? Arlington is super liberal and **is** investigating residency fraud.

Oh boy. As someone that grew up in AZ they have a long history of allowing people to attend schools out of boundary. As in it was common place when I was in elementary school in the 80s. AND it doesn't' even have to be within your own district. You could go to schools in other districts. They have had open enrollment for as long as I can remember for much of the Phoenix metro area. Anyway, seems like you don't really understand anything about the AZ education system. Unsurprisingly.

Anyway, as another poster said. APS is investigating this. So not sure what your deal is.

You really can’t compare a huge western state with the DMV area, it wouldn’t make sense here due to population density

You would be astounded at the number of families we have living either out of our boundaries (moved and the kids don't want to change schools), out of the county (same reason) or even in DC. There is nothing we can do about it (one residency specialist for the entire county) unless a parent comes in and provides the new address. And even then, it's not easy depending on what year they move. It is super frustrating for the school staff and I don't even pay taxes in FCPS. One reason is that they are often late, driving in from DC or PWC and that causes a strain on staff for a variety of reasons. I LOVE that APS is doing this and I wish FCPS would follow suit. In my opinion, the hassle is worth it when resources are tight enough as it is.

I worked at one of the "bottom 3" APS elementary schools and we had the same problem, especially with tardiness due to driving long distances. I don't think this will have a huge impact though, people who are using a relative's address will continue to do so with this system. It might deter a couple people but others are committed to it

If APS is serious about this, that should not be a possiblity; because the guardian's name must be on utility bill, etc. Or how about the vehicle registration must be to the Arlington address used for the school system?
It really can't be that difficult to say; sorry you are not actually living with that relative!

Oh I wasn't comparing just saying AZ has always had this system. It is not some new liberal plot..

How does one just use a relative's address? Wouldn't they need a document with their own name on it?

They put their name on a utility bill and pay it in exchange for using the address. Or their Arlington relative creates a “lease.”

A family can declare homelessness, that doesn’t mean you’re living on the street. It can mean you’re temporary living with a relative. That is one type of exception to the residency rule.

Are we supposed to get a confirmation of receipt email after uploading? We submitted via the emailed link but never received any follow up messages.

I think it said to allow 10 business days.

I have a pretty janky looking lease and just got a follow up to provide 2 addition forms of proof. Not sure if everyone is getting it. They are:
Federal, state, or property tax return
* Vehicle registration
* Valid's VA driver's license
* Current payroll or withholding statement
* 1 (ONE) Current utility bill
* Financial assistance documents from Arlington County

I submitted a copy of my property deed and got the same request. Haven't sent these in yet. I believe they are requiring this for everyone.

Reviving this because of the ARLnow article about middle school boundaries today. https://www.arlnow.com/2023/09/28/aps-to-pause-middle-school-boundary-process-for-one-year/#more-304509

Apparently Gunston is now down to 2 students over design capacity, so 994, from last year's September enrollment of 1072. They explicitly said the drop was due to the enrollment verification process.
