APS: Address Confirmation Project 5th & 8th grade students

My option school asked for an updated copy of our lease in December. Since I had it scanned I just went to the site and uploaded it on the new page. It took 5 seconds

PSA - if you don’t have a copy of your deed, Arlington’s department of land records has a link on its website inviting residents to request one specifically for the purpose of school enrollment. Super easy and fast.

I'm one of the annoyed PPs. I get that it shouldn't take long, but it's one more thing I have to remember to do/facilitate and I find it irritating that I have to do it, especially when I'm not the person doing anything wrong. And FWIW, 1) I don't complain about everything APS does, and 2) people committing address fraud (or whatever you call it) in terms of where they can go to school is not even ON my list of things to worry about.

Really, people, I'm just venting.

This is really good information and I'm taking it one step further for the good of the order:

School Registration? Request a copy of your deed by email. Send name and residence address to CircuitCourt@arlingtonva.us Please note “School deed request” in the subject line.

This is Op, I'm pretty sure I know where it is. We have a dusty file cabinate in the basement that we never enter except at tax time. Probably there

I think it's 100 percent reasonable for APS to ask for this at 5th and 8th grade and in fact, if they don't do it, they are doing a poor job of managing their resources.

You should find it irritating that you're so disorganized this is somehow a big deal to you.

Also, please don't dictate to me what I should and should not find irritating. I already dealt with it and submitted it. Still find it irritating.

I mean, I guess it's slightly irritating but I would be a lot more irritated if APS just let people game the system while our schools are overcrowded.

What do you want them to do instead, PP?

The question was the paragraph!

OP, this it the first I have heard of it also, but I get SO many APS emails I might have missed it.

Apparently it's a new process. I just got the email about an hour ago. What a pain to have to either find this paperwork or get a new copy... I'm annoyed, tbh.

You don’t have readily available copies of your lease or deed?

I probably do but they are filed away and, frankly, I really don't want to take the time to deal with it.

Then don't. Proof of residency is required for enrollment as allowed by Virginia law. Your kid is already enrolled, so the burden falls to the school if they want to unenroll them based on residency. Hopefully at least one obstinate parent refuses and then appeals it though the courts if the school takes action.

You don’t think the court would be pissed at the waste of resources when all people need to do if provide one document?

And all bc they “don’t want to” 😂. How ridiculous, you guys have probably spent more time reading this thread than it would’ve taken you to find the document.

It takes no time to not bother. The county knows where I live when it sends me property and vehicle tax bills, it can figure out where I live for enrollment purposes too

then I guess you can figure out how to reenroll your kid when they unenroll you. spoiler alert - you need proof of residency for that. have fun.

And if you are in a choice school, you may lose your spot. I am sure the people on the waitlist at HB will gladly take it from you, while providing proof of residency in a timely manner.

Bingo. And I suspect the choice schools are where this happens more.

Why do you think that?

That makes no sense at all. Or are you insinuating something about immersion schools?

+1

PP needs to work on time management skills. In the time it took to post and reply on this thread she could have already found the necessary documents.

DP. I assume PP means they are coveted spots that families don’t want to give up, even if they move.
