Maybe. Or maybe murders are different from other violent crimes. There is actual research about such issues. You don't have to speculate/make stuff up. |
MPD stats don’t include simple assault/battery, so it’s impossible to know. Second, it is also possible that people are getting better aim through more practice. So what was once a non-fatal bullet wound is now a murder. |
| My nephew was murdered over the summer. It took about 6 months but the police recently arrested someone for the murder. I didn’t think they were going to catch anyone but I’m very glad they did. On the other hand my friend was the victim of a home invasion - he was beaten and robbed by 3 teenagers (14 and 15 year olds) and although the police did arrest the kids who did it, the judicial system did nothing and the kids are free. |
| Police caught and arrested a porch thief in our neighborhood. However it was because neighbors saw them in the act and called quickly, police were nearby and able to respond quickly, and the porch thief was slow to leave because they didn't know someone was observing. |
I want to know what the hell the kid was doing at 3am in the morning outside? Where are the parents? |
You sound like George Zimmerman. No to stop and frisk. If you want stop and frisk, have a chat with your friends who are black. If you don't have friends who are black, ask yourself why you live in a bubble and change that. No to killing someone just for a car break in when a life is not in danger. |
In this world you describe, even criminals can get away with murder because they can just claim the person was breaking into their car and make sh*t up. I don't want to live in that world. |
You don't want to know what the hell the adult was doing shooting a gun into the street at 3 am in the morning? |
No, you’d actually have to have some evidence. But criminals need consequences. Not that you should admit it, but I highly doubt you live in a high crime neighborhood. |
I do not want a world of vigilante justice where people kill for a car break in and your life isn't remotely in danger. I am sister to a state police officer and good friends with a few other cops who are MPD. Nobody wants a vigilante world including them. And FWIW, I live in NE DC in a high crime area highly criticized in DCUM whenever the neighborhood is mentioned. A car break in is worth a call to the police. Not some dumb idiot who thinks he's rambo or hopped up on his latest game of COD now shooting into a DC street when nobody's life is in danger. If a life is actually in danger, go forth, but make sure you can actually shoot because wild DC shots are known to penetrate windows. I've got friends who found bullets in their house and know of a parent who found a bullet in their kid's crib. If your wild shooting at someone for a bleeping car break in ended up meaning a bullet landed in my house, let alone harmed a member of my family, I'd sue the crap out of you. |
| I thought DC crime overall had dropped in 2022. |
It has. Dollars to donuts none of the tough-on-crime posters in this thread live in DC. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even live in the metro region. |
Ah yes. No one who objected to the criminal code changes lives in DC. That makes total sense. |
