Crime is not increasing in DC. It's not even increasing in the short run, 2021 was 4118. Crime has declined in 26 of the past 30 years.

There are reasons to be skeptical of these numbers.  This kind of data is easily manipulated by, for example, downplaying certain crimes as misdemeanors, failing to take reports, etc.[/quote]

MPD stats don’t include simple assault/battery, so it’s impossible to know.
