Violent crimes in DC, by year: 1992 16,680 2002 9,109 2012 6,963 2022 3,820 Crime is not increasing in DC. It's not even increasing in the short run, 2021 was 4118. Crime has declined in 26 of the past 30 years. Source: MPD annual reports
Interesting how a post rich in actual facts gets little attention.
There are reasons to be skeptical of these numbers. This kind of data is easily manipulated by, for example, downplaying certain crimes as misdemeanors, failing to take reports, etc.
Do you have better data? Please provide.
Murders are harder to sweep under the rug 2011 108 2012 88 2013 103 2014 105 2015 162 2016 136 2017 116 2018 160 2019 166 2020 198 2021 226 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Washington,_D.C.
If you want to talk about murders specifically, then you should refer to murders specifically, not "crime" in general.
Or maybe a rising murder rate coupled with a crashing violent crime rate is evidence that violent crimes are being under reported
Maybe. Or maybe murders are different from other violent crimes. There is actual research about such issues. You don't have to speculate/make stuff up.
MPD stats don’t include simple assault/battery, so it’s impossible to know. Second, it is also possible that people are getting better aim through more practice. So what was once a non-fatal bullet wound is now a murder.
