I spend a lot of time in South America and SE Asia and I just don't think they are interested in American women at all. And US ex-pats, forget about it.

I am an American woman married into a SE Asian family, and it’s treated as a major prestigious accomplishment by my husband and his other cousins who managed to marry women of European descent. Now of course I think it’s creepy by the idea they aren’t interested in Americans?? Absurd.

American women simply aren't highly regarded in most of these countries. I don't want to say anything hateful on DCUM, so I'll just say it's an observation that is blatantly obvious.

He got citizenship as a small child and is a biglaw partner. And I know many more like him in our social circle. So again, this is just so bizarre I think it’s not only hateful but your hateful fantasy not grounded in any form of reality.

The American women I know who are "broadening their options" are dating Canadian and European men--better their chances of moving out of the US.
And Asian men who are in the US.

I'm EE married to an American. My H is 6'2, in shape, with green eyes. We also try to marry handsome and successful guys, like everyone else. There's also a strong stigma associated with ugly children in EE, so we don't want to risk it.

American & other western men are sometimes attractive to women from traditional societies because the men from the west, even those seen as hopelessly patriarchal, have progressive views on gender relative to men from more traditional societies.

I don't think it's always just about money, women from traditional societies might yearn to be treated more as an equal.
